Talk me through high blood glucose.
I've felt awful the last few days and I know at least one reason now: my blood sugar is over 208. I took a pill to bring it down, but I'm shaky and feel awful. :( I need to start up my exercise program again and get some things done on the apartment, but right now I can't.

Some of the other reasons I've felt awful include bad weather and a major hard drive failure. I'm also thinking that being out of school makes me feel isolated.

While my blood glucose drops, entertain me, minions! ;)

1. OK, I'll entertain myself, then.
Name animals that are zygodactyl. No fair googling until you've run out of answers!

2. Why, Ladyhawk, parrots are zygodactyl, as are woodpeckers.
Chameleons are zygodactyl, but only on their back legs, I believe. Owls are zygodactyl, as are ox-peckers.

to see if you're correct?

5. Better be careful
I once got into a pretty hot flamewar with myself. I had to put myself on ignore for awhile.

I don't know anything about high blood glucose but it doesn't sound pleasant. I will join you in misery, though, since I have a screaming migraine (I'm sure staring at this computer screen will make it all better in no time).

ROTFLMAO!!!

Staring at a computer screen isn't that great for high blood glucose, either, because it makes my vision blurry.

4. No idea. When I suffered from low blood sugar
I would eat high protien packed peanuts, cheese or have some OJ to try to temper the physical reaction. Granted that isn't really relevant - just wanted to respond. Hope that you feel better soon.

so it stabilizes instead of tanks.

13. Good point! I was just burned by someone in GD. Maybe he was...
going through the same thing. He REALLY is in a bad, bad mood!

Would a little meditation help maybe?

18. Help you or him? :D
Let me tell you, diabetes can do a number on one's mood. I was literally afraid to call my mother this morning because I was afraid I would bite her head off. And no, it wouldn't be her fault no matter what she said.

I will NOT go into GD right now and I'm a little pissed that two of my hot-button issues are being discussed in the lounge where they don't belong: religion and depression. I clicked the little X next to one of the threads and put someone on ignore who has pissed me off before. :D This may have been done under the influence of glucose overload. It may be undone by tomorrow. :)

14. Try doing something physical
your cells will respond by starting to use up the excess glucose in your blood...

are you diabetic? is this something that happens often? if this is a once in a time kinda thing, the exercise shoudl help. if you are insulin resistant, i'm not sure how to bring it down. 208 is pretty high. have you thought about seeing a doc to find out what's up?

good luck  i hope you feel better soon!

15. Yes, I'm diabetic. I felt lousy, so I tested and sho 'nuff!
The funny thing is I didn't feel good enough to do anything physical. I slept most of the day yesterday. I was probably hyperglycemic then, too.

I got up and did one physical thing. Now I'm dizzy. Wheee! I'll be okay in awhile I think. Then I'll do some housework and that will use up some of the glucose.

17. How did you become hyperglycemic this time?
Fallen off the diet? I hope this isn't a chronic thing, because your brain and circulation really suffer with constant high glucose. Ketone bodies are bad news too.

Anyway, best of luck.

19. Yes, I know it can be bad. I've had it under pretty good control
for awhile, but I fell off the "constant monitoring" wagon and did something really stupid: I had frozen cherries for breakfast with no protein. I figured my body had been in good enough shape to handle it. Guess what? :D It couldn't handle it. :)

I am reminded once again: no sugars--even "good" sugars"--all by themselves. It's like drinking alcohol on an empty stomach. It really hikes the blood glucose. Geez, I can be dumb sometimes, but it was a good reminder not to do it again. :scared:

My body feels like it is being "worked over."

16. Drink a bunch of water while you're hanging out
You'll pee out some of the sugar :)

I went through a spell this past week where I was running in the 300s for no discernable reason... possibly fighting off the cold my daughter has. You have much sympathy from me, high blood sugar is a shitty feeling. I hope yours comes down soon, dude

20. Oh, thanks for the reminder!
Drinking water is important. I just chugged two glasses before I responded. 300s is high! I was running that high once when I had to undergo a bunch of medical procedures which required general anesthesia every other day for two weeks. STRESS!!!!!

I feel for you if yours was high for no discernable reason. At least I know what stupid thing I did to cause it this time. :D

21. Yeah, the not knowing does suck
I changed both of my insulin pens, to no avail. And then *poof*, three days later, all better. No idea. Sometimes, diabetes extra-sucks. x(

I hate the sleepiness that comes with high blood sugar the most, I think. Where you just feel like a sleep-needing-zombie. I hope your number comes back down soon!

29. Yeah, it's fun, eh? :)
I just ate a light dinner and I'm sucking on a peppermint candy. The peppermint candy ought to bring it up quickly. Hopefully the protein in my dinner will stabilize it.

Type 1 is nasty. :( I guess you have to be a little more vigilant, though. I get on these "I'm doing fine" trips and stop testing. Then I fall into a trap. I was shaky when my blood glucose was high; now it tanked and I'm shaky again. I doubt I'm all that low. Sometimes it's just the sudden drop that does it. I'll test it again, though.

Tomorrow's gotta be better, right?

32. Yeah, Type 1 does generally require more vigilance
I generally test 4-6 times/day and do 4-8 injections, depending on the day/what I'm doing/whatever else. But that's kind of just how it is. I know some people who can get away with testing twice daily and two daily injections, but they've got much less varied lives ;)

The sudden drop can definitely make you feel low even when you're not. Tomorrow will be a better day, I bet!

27. My dear Ladyhawk.....
I am sorry you're having so much trouble with your blood sugar....

Have you considered getting an insulin pump? I know at least one person who has been able to get excellent control of her blood sugars via the pump.....

You might think about that....

:hi:

31. Hi, CaliforniaPeggy!
How the hell are ya? ((((((((((((((((((((((CaliforniaPeggy)))))))))))))))))))))))))))) How's the weather down in SoCal? We're getting soaked up here!

I'm not to the point where I need an insulin pump, I don't think. I just need to be a little more careful. I had been doing pretty well, then I got out of my exercise routine and had a stupid breakfast.

Right now I'm hypoglycemic, so I rode the glucose roller coaster today. Remind me that not taking care of myself is really stupid. :D

Now I have to wait for dinner to hit my system.

It sounds like exercise would really help with your blood sugar and with your "bluesy" feeling day.
