Green Day Nominated for Record of the Year

Press Release Source: Reprise Records

Topping off an amazing year of accolades and recognition for their masterpiece "American Idiot," Green Day has been nominated for a Grammy® Award in the Record of The Year Category with their song "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams."

Green Day's multi-platinum "American Idiot" was released on September 21, 2004 and debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and Number One in several countries around the world. Weeks later the album returned to the Number One chart position in the US and many of the same countries across the globe. Months after the release of the album, Green Day made radio history by becoming the first rock band to reach #1 on six radio charts simultaneously with their smash "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." Green Day won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in February of 2005. They swept the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards by winning seven out of the eight awards for which they were nominated, including the most prestigious Video Of The Year. The band also cleaned up at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards winning in total a staggering eight awards.

8. Most overrated album of the decade, bar none.
Green Day has sucked since Nimrod and they peaked at insomniac.

9. Some of the songs are all right, but yeah, I don't believe the hype.
Besides, "punk" and "concept album" are two terms that can't manifest themselves on the same album.

12. I just don't see the appeal...
I wanted to. All I hear is ridiculously overhyped pop-punk with mildly leftist overtones. Leftist content does not an amazing album make.

30. I love Bad Religion
They didn't used to be called pop punk, though, that's for sure.

I think Green Day were reaching out, stretching their boundaries. And that's cool. I like the album, but I think there are better songs on it than Boulevard. I like that they had the brass to make a "concept" album, if that's what it is. It actually might be more of a musical, though, when you think about it.

32. The thing about Amrican Idiot...
It's not taht it's a bad album per se, I just find it really average, and that fact just amplifies the annoyance of the hype surrounding it.

34. but
what did Greg Graffin do? I'm afraid to look. ;)

I think that anything even remotely challenging that anyone does these days is lauded as exemplary...it does carry the mood pretty well. Look for it to be on Broadway at some point, mark my words...

16. I don't see it.
I think the music sucks ass really. Just because you make a politically charged record does not make it good.

I tried to like it, really i did. But it's just so bland sounding and uninspiring musically for my ears.

And compare it to Bad Religion's "The Empire Strikes First" (came out the same year) or Rx Bandits' "The Resignation" (came out in '03) and I just don't think it stands up.

And then there's Rise Against (how I forgot them I have no idea). Now THAT is how punk rock is meant to be done.

24. No doubt.
Theres tons of artists who are more deserving of the honor, but will never get it. Simply because big corp music thinks we don't need to hear them.

Don't you really love how we are spoon fed what we are supposed to like? Disgusting really.

I will give it this though. Compared to what came out commercially in '05 i guess it stacks up pretty well, when you consider all the vapid, shallow crap we were handed.

that when I saw GD on the Tonight show for the first time, I thought, hmmm, here's some of that energy that we loved so well in the old days. However, it should have been Bad Religion that became famous!

36. Green Day Bash Bush At End of Year Bash
by Paul Cashmere

December 19 2005

Green Day finished 2005 in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday night before 37,000 fans by bashing US President Bush. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong sent “a big fuck you to George W. Bush” while he strutted the stage draped in an Australian flag. The audience loved it.

Green Day have just had their best ever year off the back of their angriest ever album. The ‘American Idiot’ record has sold more than 10 million copies now worldwide and the American President should be thanked for the inspiration. “My name is Billie Joe Armstrong and I was sent to make George fucking Bush’s life a fucking nightmare” he screamed, again with full support of the fans.

Armstrong was relentless with the message. “No matter who we elect into office, don’t let them dictate your life. We are the leaders” he said off the back of “Minority”.

This was the Green Day at their best. The vitriolic performance with punctuated with songs from across their entire career dating back to the Operation Ivy cover ‘Knowledge’ which they recorded before the breakthrough album ‘Dookie’.

Glad you got turned on to Green Day if you don't have it get Bullet in a Bible it's great !
