Southern DU'ers: What is Chik-Fil-A like?
Food wise?

Never been there - we don't have em in the West Coast, and when in Texas I was more tempted by the BBQ than the fast food options.

1. Their chicken sandwich is pretty good, I love their waffle fries.
Anything else is decent. A little too pricey for what you get.

3. I agree, about the price, but their southwest chicken salad
is out of this world. Now I'm hungry.

2. I don't eat meat any more, but when I did
I used to buy Chik-Fil-A quite often. Their chicken sandwiches are quite good.

5. It's just a fried chicken breast sandwich. It's pretty juicy, but too
greasy for me. But it's definitely better than other fast-food chicken options. Not that I eat that stuff often, but sometimes in a pinch...:scared:

6. We don't have one where I live. I haven't tried them.
I do love KFC and homemade chicken though. Ahem, without getting flamed, I'd like to be able to say that I use flour and eggs to roll the chicken in for frying... :hide:

10. Nothing wrong with flour and eggs
I experiment - best batter I had had flour, eggs, masa harina and corn starch.

20. Look for it in you local grocery.
If the have a hispanic foods section. I can get it here in N.C. It's more or less just fine corn flour.

8. It's good. I like the chicken BBQ sandwich
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 01:19 PM by supernova
they used to serve. i haven't seen it here in ages.

I mostly like the fact that you can order lemonade with your meal, rather than overly sweet cola or ice tea (sacrilege, I know)

The cole slaw is good and the aforementioned waffle fries.. :9

If you are in the mood for something lighter, they have salads too.

9. They're different than most places in that
they pressure cook their chicken in peanut oil. It gives it a unique taste.

As far as price, it may vary by region, but I get the #1 combo, value sized with coke or tea, and it is invariably under 5.00.

They are on the right-wingy family-values side, but they don't seem to force it upon anyone. They close on Sunday so their "employees may rest and spend time with their families."

A nice gesture, and nice that they didn't mention church.

11. i saw a thread a couple weeks back about Focus on the Family...
...literature being put in their kids meals? Of course I don't ever get kids meals to verify this, but I don't like that kind of stuff pushed on our kids. Then again fast food for kids is bad enough?!?

Anyway, to answer the original post, I LOVE their chicken nuggets... they taste quite a bit different than most chicken nuggets from say wendys or mcds... and the polynesian sauce (sweet and sour) is my favorite of all fast food places.

13. I've never seen it, but if I did, I'd write a letter to
Truett Cathy (their CEO), and I wouldn't go back until they removed them.

17. It was a CD or DVD
I noticed it in the kids' meals last time we ate there. I threw threw them away immediately. It's the first promo I ever saw that was objectionable. They were usually pretty harmless, and often better than what you'd get at McDonalds. One recent promotion was collectible cards printed by the website How Things Work, which I thought was cool. One time they put in miniature versions of classic books. I really wasn't happy with the FOF DVD's, though.

21. Really.
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 02:13 PM by Pithlet
Although the fact that it was FOF is what got me. Christian material from a private business wouldn't bother me. I already knew that Chic Fil A was founded and owned by fundie type Christians; They really haven't made that a secret. It upset me to see that I'd been patronizing a business that thinks FOF is just fine and dandy, though, and is distributing their material to customers' children. That orginization is just plain offensive, and would be no matter what religion they hid themselves behind.

23. Agreed. I don't see a problem with 95% of the stuff that comes in their
kids meals - it is definitely better than the Mickey D's crap. But that one was too far (I never actually saw it myself)

I've never seen any religious stuff in a Chick Fil A.

26. the kids meals come with things that could be construed as "religious"
from their site:

"When it comes to our Kid's Meals, the character we're most interested in isn't the cartoon kind. Nourishing hungry young minds and helping you promote healthy values for your child are the top priorities. Educational, character-building Kid's Meal prizes help to bring grownups and kids together."

The things I have seen are just as they have stated, with maybe a Biblical angle for some of it - but the messages are good ones, and not messages restricted only to "Christians" (or trying to convert someone to Christianity.)

IMHO, anyways.

I've had better, but I'll grab some once in a while if I happen to be near a store. I don't think it's the best around, though, and it's a little expensive.

22. I went there once
it was a pleasant atmosphere, the food was fine and they actually had a fruit cup option. As for their fundieness, I guess I won't go again. I think Wildmon et al need to take a flying leap.

27. That "yummy but fundie" response above says it best...
Chik-Fil-A is the best fast food chicken I'm aware of. Their nuggets are a revelation -- you will never eat McDonalds (or any other nuggets) again. Unfortunately, they give lots of money to Jesus-freak organizations.

28. I went there once
to the location in the Houston Galleria. I got a moldy bun. Returned the food, got my money back, and never went back.

Re "fundy food": now living in NoCal and haven't yet tried In-N-Out. There is one by my Costco. I am awaiting hunger meeting opportunity.
