I'm engaged!

Hi DU, been away for 48 hours. Hopefully I haven't missed too much in the political world but... I'm engaged! <3 <3 <3

We went up to an inn up in the mountains of Western Virginia, near the West Virginia border. It was the middle of winter, so there was snow on the ground. Nevertheless, it was beautiful. Fog rolled over the mountains and the view from the Japanese baths was amazing. It stretched out over this large yellow field framed by mountains on three sides.

Yesterday morning we took a walk out to see the farm animals that the innkeepers have. They have a gigantic turkey with some smaller companions, several roosters, white hens, a coop of baby chicks, and even two gigantic blue peacocks. One of the four farm dogs escorted us down there the whole way. We joked that he was like our color guard, and we were very impressed with how he'd go a few yards ahead, and then look back and wait for us.

The road we took back led us straight through the middle of the field. The mountains were impressive and foggy in the distance. We love looking at mountains, so we stopped to take in the view. He asked me if I thought this spot was romantic. "Yes," I said, a spark of hope flying up into my throat like a loose bit of flame. "It's foggy and not so muddy as the other road."

He was quiet a minute, looking at the mountains, his back to me. "Are you okay?" I asked tentatively.

"Say..." he started.

"Hm?"

"...you'll share with me your love, your lifetime," he paraphrased. Occasionally we like to quote romantic songs. He usually gets the lyrics wrong. I didn't realize this was on purpose.

His back was still to me. "...Lead the way and I will follow you," he went on.

And when he turned to me, his eyes were serious and determined and hopeful.

"Say you want me with you, now and always," he continued.

His hand reached into his jacket pocket. "Anywhere you go let me go too."

He dropped to one knee. He said my name, opening for me a box containing a sparkling diamond ring. "Will you be my wife?"

My answer, of course, was yes.
