Is this a job you could do? (pic)

I'm one of those people with a ridiculous fear of tall buildings- I can't go up above about eight stories or so and look out the window without feeling fear deep down inside. Oddly enough, I am NOT afraid of flying- I LOVE the window seat in a plane. In fact my dad used to fly a Cessna, and we'd buzz all over the countryside in it, and it was fun.

Odd sort of fear to have, but there it is. Even looking at this pic freaks me out a bit.

2. That pic freaked me out a bit also
I am like you, planes don't bother me. Even if I look up at something high I get a little vertigo.

4. I cannot walk up or down really high/tall stairs w/o a handrail, for
fear I will fall off. I remember sliding down stairs once, purposefully and on my butt, that's how scared I was.
Yet I fly a lot. It must be a control, or lack of, thing.

I freak out on a 3 meter ladder.. I enjoy flying in a airplane.. I imagine I would freak out on a 3 meter ladder inside of an airplane.

spots WAAAAAAAAAAAY high in the ceiling trusses... YEEEE HAH! I LOVE being way, way, way, way, way high.

I should be able to start flying lessons in mid-late 2006, and I desperately want my own small plane.

(I was a stagehand building sets and working in the technical aspect of large arena rock n roll shows)

8. Nope. No way. Just looking at this picture
makes my stomach do flip-flops.

Like you, an airplane (including the little guys) or even a helicopter is no problem. But DAMN, don't get me on a ladder!!! :scared:

10. It's neither ridiculous nor odd
Quite a common fear, in fact.

There's no way in heaven, hell or anywhere in between I could do what those guys are doing. One of the most paralyzingly terrifying things I can think of is being on a radio transmission tower or some other tall structure where there's nothing beneath me but the ground.

Same here on the window seat of a plane, though. That's so strange, but true.

15. unlike most of you
my fear of heights extends to planes as well...to the point that several doses of anti-anxiety meds don't work

i have a hard time coping with high places and no control

so in answer to your question

cram it

17. I had a doctor explain that to me once
because I have the same fear...but love to fly. Anyway, he told me that it has to do with what your brain considers the 'ground'. In an airplane, the floor of the plane becomes the 'ground' and, even if you know you're 35,000 ft in the air you're still grounded. Now, if you tried climbing a ladder inside that plane at 35,000 ft, you'd find the fear returning.

So now you can raspberry those who try to tell you that your 'fear of heights' must be a ploy for attention since you can fly with no problems.
