My local country club is offering initiation-free-entry - should I join?
I checked out their website, curious about the costs of being a member, but it had no information at all.

But they are waiving the multi-thousand dollar initiation fee.

Do country clubs normally have a monthly rate? Yearly rate?

This club does have reciprocal free green fees at some other country clubs, which makes me think that there must be a monthly standard charge, and that golf is then free even at the club - maybe one round a week?

When I was in Honolulu, I knew members of the Honolulu Country Club and I remember them saying that they didn't have a monthly charge, but that they were required to spend something like $200 a month there on golf, food, etc., and if they didn't, then they got charged whatever they were supposed to spend. Are all country clubs on this schema?

I'm just curious if it's even worth calling them to ask. I'd love to have access to their dining rooms and their golf course, which is amazing.

1. What harm is there in calling and asking them?
If you enjoy the game, you know how costly greens fees and cart fees can be, maybe the reciprocal access to other courses and the dining rooms will truly make it worth your wild.

It never hurts to ask and golfing on an amazing course can bring such pleasure.

:hi:

2. All country clubs are different
My husband's uncle belongs to one in Florida that had a high initiation fee, a higher yearly fee than the average American makes per year, and charged $100/round of golf anyway. Personally I think that is just stupid.
At the two country clubs in the area that I grew up, golf was free with the membership. The better country club also had an outdoor pool, tennis courts, and a raquet ball court that were also included with the membership. They both had yearly rates that could be paid in installments.
If you are interested, you could always call.

3. Might want to try a "golf club" instead
My co-worker was telling me about them. Apparently much better kept than public courses, but much lower fees than Country clubs.
