Okay, so King Kong was pretty good.
The first act was a bit uneven, but as it was just the setup and there was no real action, that's okay. The depiction of the era itself was pretty good- when I saw the Time Square ad for the new Chevrolet at $445 I couldn't help thinking even back then it was way too overpriced. I wonder if Jackson consulted with Ron Howard (The Cinderella Man) on the design of New York?

The island itself was great- the design crew did a fantastic job, and it screamed of Peter Jackson's style- especially the natives. When they first appeared I instantly thought "orcs". It was perhaps a leftover design from LOTR?

The stampede and all surrounding action was IMHO more than a bit overdone, but I'll take it for granted this part was for the kiddies. Speaking of which, some lunatic a few rows behind us had brought a small child along, and of course it was crying through the whole movie, and of course they WOULDN'T FREAKING LEAVE. Note to parents: Have a clue, please. DO NOT TAKE YOUNG CHILDREN TO THIS KIND OF MOVIE.

Kong and his love of beautiful women was done exceedingly well. He became alive, and I never once had an "Oh, brother" moment to the end of the flick. The ice skating scene was brilliant, and it "humanized" Kong like nothing else could. Bravo.

Saying anything else would require a spoiler warning, so I'll steer clear and just say it was a pleasant afternoon in a large dark room with friends, a good time was had by all, and it was not wasted time or money.
