Need immediate advice: Silicone bakeware.
I've got a pound cake in the oven in a silicone bundt pan. The recipe, in a regular bundt pan, usually takes 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I did the toothpick test to the cake, in the silicone pan, at 1 hour and 10 minutes, and the toothpick didn't come out clean. I just did it again at 1 hour and 25 minutes, and again it didn't come out clean.

This is my first time to use silicone bakeware. Does it generally have a longer bake time?

I'm asking this question in here instead of in the Baking group because I need an answer ASAP.

Thanks to anyone who can give me hope that this cake still might turn out ok.

1. Yep, it takes longer.
and things tend to be a bit moister and less browned when cooked in/on silicone.

18. That appears to be the consensus
My sister says she uses her's alot. She also warned me to be sure and put them on a cookie sheet when baking.

Happy baking.

5. That's the floppy stuff, isn't it?
That stuff just weirds me out. I'd never use it in a million years. I don't know why, though, I just have a gut, visceral reaction to it that says, "Wow, that's unnatural and gross. Stay away."

That said, good luck with your cake. :P

6. Gee, thanks. :eyes:
LOL. Yeah, it kinda grosses me out, too. And I thought I was weird. :D

I'm going to the store in a little bit, and I'm going to buy a regular bundt pan. Two hours to bake a cake is just a little too long.

15. I have never used silicone bakeware.

I don't want to. I know what to expect with my regular cookware, and I wouldn't trade my old-fashioned bundt pans for anything!

I've always had a hard time believing the silicone cookie sheets were any good. I get such nice even baking and browning with my shiny aluminum cookie sheets.

16. I got a muffin 'tin' that I'm gonna be courageous and try Saturday.
But it is weird looking stuff. It looks like Playschool. It's red.
