I am so SICK of overcast skies.
It's like someone took a straw and sucked the color out of everything, and blew it in a vomitous brown spatter onto filthy, gravelly streets. It's just brown and white and shades of gray as far as I can see. This is the part of winter I can't stand. That and I'm dog-sitting a dumb bichon who had run away once already in the first hour that I had her. Today sucks. :puke:

1. Do you have a fireplace?
Firelight can be mood-lifting.

2. No. That would be nice. I think I need to alter my music queue
there's too much gloom and somber tones in it.

10. A little candlelight, then...
and maybe some Debussy piano music...

Re-reading your original post, I'm thinking you should save it in a journal. You write beautifully!

3. You never get used to it
Pittsburgh has more overcast days than Seattle and they all seem to happen between November and March. I swear sometimes I forget what the sun looks like. It helps to plan a short trip to someplace sunny in late February.

8. No, you dont.
I get really affected by the weather. It's frustrating.

4. I know what you mean, Lara
Here in Seattle, the "bluest skies you've ever seen" turn gunmetal gray in the winter. We still have all the evergreen trees which is nice, but everything does look washed out. Kind of gets to a person after awhile.

I'm sorry that today isn't very good for you.

7. I just keep thinking "It's not even January yet,"
We've got about 3 or 4 more months of this..." January and February are the worst.

9. Yeah. February is often the "monsoon season" here.
Buckets and buckets of rain for DAYS on end! I am a northwest girl, born and bred, so don't mind some rain at all, but even I can OD on it!

6. Hah! You made me laugh.
Turns out you ARE good for something. Don't get an ego, though; I laugh at people who fall down, too.

14. Oddly enough, while I hate looking at days like
this through the windows, I find that a good pick-me-up is to actually go outside! It seems counter-intuitive, but the mild nip of the air and the sense of doing something takes away the blahs.

Of course, I've barely left the house today, but plan on skiing later tonight.

Hang in there! :)

20. I should go run laps around the house,
but since it's surrounded with ice and snow, I'd probably break my neck. Then I'd get to lay in bed and stare at my ceiling instead. :P

21. Keep the curtains drawn tightly
if you are staring at the ceiling--that way you can pretend it's night, and not dull!

16. Kollyforniya's much the same
particularly near the coast, and particularly November through about February. The sky's a rather interesting grayscale patchwork right now, but a lot of fall and winter days remind me of liver. :puke:

And it bums. me. out.

19. Liver? Yuck!!!!
I think I prefer my gunmetal gray to your liver-colored sky!

22. I would too
except "gunmetal-gray skies" makes me think Reagan's "Star Wars" is gonna open up on us. :scared: At least I can give liver to Lucy.

I also want to hyphenate "gunmetal."

(Where's the anal-retentive smilie?)

It kind of sucks having vacation when it's so gloomy. The up side is it's not 20 below zero out.

18. That's the saving grace and the irony at once, isn't it?
If it were clear and blue, it would be much colder.

23. Yeah -- We had a week of cold, clear, blue skies and windy.
I froze my patooties off! I couldn't wait for it to cloud up again and warm up into the 50s and rain (which it finally did). I can't take that bone-chilling cold!
