Good Tuesday Morning, Everyone!
:donut::hi:
How are you today? I hope all you Nighthawks have had a great night! We're on the countdown now to New Years Day and the year 2006, can you believe it!? 5 days remain in 2005 so if there are things you wanted to accomplish this year, you'd better "get on the ball"!

I was supposed to be off work today, but my boss changed my day off this week to Saturday instead. :grr: I am tired of not having a day off. There are things I need to get done (like laundry) that I can only do when I'm off. I need a break from the store and all the customers. Now, I have to wait some more, and I don't understand why she did it. I'm beginning to think I need to change jobs where the schedules don't change once they are made and posted. I mean, I was looking forward to being off today, Dammit! OK...

I am currently having computer problems...hopefully I will be able to repair them, and be up and running.

27. You are not alone there.
I once had some spyware infect my computer. I would delete the files that kept propogating themselves on my computer and slowing it down. I was using Adaware to get rid of the offending files named optimizer.exe and some other oddly named file in my c drive that ended in exe as well. It kept popping up saying the same one was back there when I hadn't even been online. Finally, I went online and read about that certain type of spyware and the instructions for getting rid of it manually. I ended up having to reboot into DOS and manually maneuver my way around and delete the SVC folder in Program files and the funky exe file in my c drive to get rid of that thing. Even after doing that I had to run adaware again to get rid of the files those files created. Once I did all that, I was clean again until Ezula got me. That was last year sometime. Thankfully, I haven't had on of those since I got the new computer. I haven't a clue how to boot to DOS using WindowsXP.

30. I think you have to restart your computer...
and when it begins the restart process, you start clicking F8 (or whichever "F" key your owners manual says to press) and then select the option that comes up that says "start with command prompt" or something like that. I've not had to do it, so I'm only telling you what I've seen when I had to get into safe mode for one reason or another.

DOS in upcoming years. That is what they say anyhow. I was afraid there would be no way to get to DOS if I need to. I am okay if I can get to DOS after a major malfunction with the ol' Windows (insert latest model here).

35. Dreading today in a way. (long rant)
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 06:39 AM by Jamastiene
I have been wanting to get my little shed/outbuilding built, but after being off from school for two weeks, I am on a nightowl schedule. It's a long story, but the building wasn't my idea. I would want a bigger one if I had my sayso. I don't have my sayso though.

My stepdad called me out of the blue last winter talking about bringing a bunch of untreated wood and piling it up in my yard to build a "shed." It's only 6 x 8 or something like that. Anyhow, my stepdad was all gung-ho this past spring to build it when my gallbladder was bothering me so bad. He stopped working on it completely after about 2 days and left the untreated wood on the ground to attract termites and rot all this time.

All of a sudden this past Sunday, he mentions "his investment" and wanting to finish it. I seem to remember paying for more wood to build the thing too. I dunno. He's sort of pretentious that way, "his" this and "his" that when this is my place, not his. My stepdad said he would be over today at 9:00 am. Neither of us likes cold weather. We both get incredibly grumpy during this time of the year when it's cold outside. It's going to be cold today. I don't know why all of a sudden now he cares about it. It was his idea to build it then he left me with all this rotting wood all over the yard for this long. I fumed for the longest time. Now, he's doing that "his" thing again with my place. He hasn't paid the bills here. It's not "his."

I guess I shouldn't rant too much, if and I mean a big "if" we finish this thing and get the rotting termite infested wood away from the place. That would be nice, but I wish he would have given me a little longer heads up about it and maybe quit deciding things for me instead of letting me decide. It irritates me.

Otherwise, I'm fine and dandy. DU seems a bit slow but I did get here late tonight, so I can't complain really. I got to read a bunch of great stuff on here tonight.

Sorry about the long rant, but I had to get it off my chest. It's good to see your morning thread too. I always know people are starting to wake up when I see your morning thread. I hear less echoes around here when I say "Hello, is anybody out there?"

I don't usually rant at all, but I needed to get my frustration out about the freakin schedule. I'm sorry for all the trouble you've had with that little "project". I've worked for a pest control company in the past I can tell you that you need to call a termite company to come out and treat the entire area (including the house), or the termites WILL make their way TO your house and then you'll be in a world of shit. If they get in, you're going to have to have costly repairs done.

49. I did do some industrial strength spraying around the place,
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 06:54 AM by Jamastiene
but something tells me they'll be around anyhow. I don't have the money to jump into these costly projects without planning and saving first. That's part of the reason I am miffed. I would have liked to have been able to save up some money and do things the right way and to decide when to start the project. It sure wouldn't be during the winter months.

Yeah, I hated the schedules I got when I was at the evil Wallyworld years ago. Such a supposedly Christian place making people work on Sundays. Blasphemers that they are, I don't like working on Sundays or Saturdays if I can help it. I'm in school now, so that's pretty cool as far as schedules go, except getting up so early. I am one of those people who usually goes to bed about the time I have to get up for school.

52. Termites slow down in the winter...
but they do NOT stop. Spraying won't do anything to them. All they have to do is go deeper and then they'll make their way to the house. Sorry to be such a downer about this whole thing. Planning and saving IS the correct way to do things...I wish more people would be that way.

I've NEVER had a job where I have every weekend off. I would like to know what that's like though.

90. OMG, I got this paper at Food Lion for school.
It's so smooth to write on that it makes me actually feel like I am wrapped up in a nice comfy blanket. I fell in love with that paper. The only thing I know about it is that it is made in Charlotte, NC and the logo has an apple with a dot carved out in it's side. Good paper. I used to love the uniball micro but can't find any good ones since they changed them. I hated that.

We could open up shops next to each other and I could come over to buy parchment paper one sheet at the time to make a grimoire. I've always wanted to make a journal/grimoire using parchment paper and a leather-like homemade spine. I'm weird. I know, but I can dream.

I'm fine, thanks. The screen is getting fixed today. But the roof cleaning guy went up yesterday to give us an estimate and told us we had a lot of loose/broken tiles ... and this was AFTER we paid someone to fix them! Might as well have tossed the money directly onto the street. harleydad still had to go up and glue down new tiles, which is what we were trying to avoid. Too late to get the money back -- the greedy little bugger cashed our check on Friday. We'll definitely tell the guy who recommended him. Most people won't know how bad it is until the next wind comes up. Just another crooked contractor story from S. FL. :banghead:

You'll be off on New years Eve!

I can understand you being upset about your plans for today being canceled!

:hi::hug:
How the hells have you been? Having New Years Eve off is all well and good...but I have to work on Sunday morning, so I can't really DO anything. :grr: She, of course, has the day off.

61. OMG ~ That Is Terrible!
I was in Block Buster early in the day on Christmas Eve complaining about the store being open the next day.
I complemented Dunkin Donut's for being closed (as I bought an extra flavored latte for the frig).

I'm sorry the store is open.
Businesses did just fine when they were closed for banking holidays!
Of course She Is Off!

67. Good morning Clint! Good morning all!
Sorry to hear Clint that you have to work today. It's frustrating when plans are thwarted.
I had a great time off, but airports on the 26th suck. Delays, delays, delays, and it seems that everyone has lost that "holiday spirit". Tempers flaring everywhere. I'm glad I'm home. Have to go into work tomorrow and Thursday and then I'm off until next Wednesday. Guess I'm kinda lucky.

Wishing everyone a great Tuesday!

I can imagine the airports on the 26th! I'm glad I didn't have to travel on THAT day. You've got a lot of time off forthcoming you lucky devil! I'm all jealous.

72. Good afternoon Clint.
:hi:

I know what you mean about shifting your time off, come here for a  you poor dear.

How did work go yesterday? I noticed that shops were open as I went over to my sister's, and thought of you getting pestered by a million folk wanting sale items, making returns &c.

73. Hello, TJ!
:hi::hug:
Thank you for the hugs, Man. I was wondering where you were. We were rather busy yesterday, but it was people buying rather than returning thank goodness. We did have a few exchanges, but that's it. I expect the next few days will be equally as busy.

74. I was being a lazy git
Yesterday I was up early to start playing with my new toy :D but today the bed won the contest for my attentions (especially as I was up late).

There's a definite 'good busy' and 'bad busy' I hope that you get the former.

We're supposed to be getting very bad snow here (see billy's thread - though note also that as a nation we're hopeless with snow and just about any snow counts as very bad), but it hasn't arrived here yet :( I want to build a snowman damnit.

75. The bed competes for my attention sometimes too...
and wins only rarely. I want to be up and around early whenever I can. Snow, I my opinion, is NEVER a good thing. I've seen my fair share of it and don't care to see any more, thank you very much anyway.

If you want to build a snowman...well then, just hope it DOES arrive. If it does and you get to build one, take a picture of it so we can see your handiwork.

76. I think that snow as per south east England
and snow as per Missouri are somewhat different.......an inch counts as severe, and results in everwhere grinding to a halt.

I hope I can build a snowman - I'm seeing my little sister later today, and so if it's snowed by then we could build together (along with a tad of snow-ball fighting, but that just has to be done).

26 inches at a time isn't unheard of. Boy can you make some killer snowmen then!

78. I'll bet....
but I have to say that I'm rather glad of England's weather, despite our bitching and moaning, the combination of being on an island with the gulf-stream means that we get perfectly pleasant weather all year round, with nothing too severe except in very rare cases.

85. I think that it's really one of those American myths
Alongside all our cooking's bad, all our teeth are bad, and we all stop for afternoon tea with crumpets and cake at half past four.

I wouldn't say "lots of rain", it does rain fairly frequently - but that's why this is (to quote Blake) 'England's green and pleasant land'. I think that the point is that our rainfall is pretty consistent throughout the year with no major dry patch in summer.

I've just had a quick look on the B.B.C. weather page, in a typical year London gets 593mm of precipitation - Altanta (Ga.) gets 1234mm (I chose Altanta because it was at the beginning of the list due to beginning with A).
