Can I ditch the McAfee that came with my computer?
I got a Dell last year that came with McAfee -- I'm guessing they all do. I never bought a full subscription and loaded a free version of AVG onto my PC. Can I just get rid of the McAfee, or is it still doing something? Is AVG enough?

1. I would be tempted to say "yes," from things I've heard others say,
but since I don't actually own a Windows machine, I won't. But here's a kick.

2. Yes, you can get rid of it ...

McAfee is one of the better commercial virus checkers, but if you never bought the full subscription, AVG's free version is just as good.

3. Yes, I did.
My computer came with McAfee. I uninstalled it since it required a subscription and the virus definitions were out of date, and installed AVG. AVG is a great antivirus program for the price - free!

4. AVG Free, and SPYWARE BLASTER, all you need!
Except SPYBOT, to catch the sneaky little trojans.

5. Get rid of it
The best antivirus program IMHO is NOD32. I've been using it for years and never got a virus. And there is more - it is free. Well, actually it is not free but you can use it for free with a little trick when istalling it. Just open the date and time properties and set the year to 2007 or 2008. Then install the program. Then when asked say you will restart the computer later, then set the date back to 2005 and restart. You will have it for free for 2,3 years.

It realy is the best antivirus proggy. It auto updates itself several times a day and takes little memory use. Give it a try and you won't be sorry.

6. Yeah, it's just a virus scanner/other things.
I personally have had better luck with it finding virii than others I have tried, but if you don't like it, get rid of it. Of course, I run two programs for spyware and other stuff. They seem to be working ok. I do know that Microsoft's freeware antispyware program misses a lot of stuff.
