Long hair or short hair?
Is there one that's just "you"? I don't feel like short hair fits me. I had mine cut above my shoulders a couple summers ago, and while it was cute, it just felt wierd. I always seem to go back to long styles. Right now, I have lots of layers, but I think I'm going to keep letting the length grow out.I change my color and I alternate curly and straight (mine's naturally curly,) but I don't drastically alter the length all that often.

1. Yeah. A few years ago I had a full on pixie cut, and it was cute but I'm
not going to go short again. I like mine how it is now--long, but with layers so the curls really puff out like a crazy bohemian freaker. I'll probably have this haircut until I'm an old old lady. (Yeah. That's right. I'm gonna be an old lady with long hair. Muahhahahahaha!)

And I'm going to look to my dear departed gramma for color advice. This woman was the most frugal, simple, no-nonsense, not vain in the slightest, woman I've ever met BUT she cracked me up when it came to her hair color. Gradually, with each decade she'd get a slightly lighter brown rinse. By the time she was in her 80's she still had a good bit of brown color in.
Well. Not too long before she died--I think she knew it was coming and it somehow prompted this--she shows up at our house after going to her weekly salon appointment, waltzes into the kitchen and matter of factly states, (and I quote):

"Well I went gray."

You know, as if it had just happened overnight, finally after 86 years.

4. That's friggin' hilarious....I'm cool enough with gray hair, but mine
started going gray when I was 23. Not alot, but still....I didn't notice right away, because I've been coloring my hair since I was fifteen. It didn't happen to anyone else in my family. Stupid hair.

12. Yeah, I have a couple myself but that's why we have tweezers and dye
I'm cool with it too, but that doesn't mean I want to have it just yet. Maybe when I'm 82, but we'll see how it goes.

30. Got You Beat, LaraMN,...
...because my hair started going gray at 17!

But, since we live in a sexist society, I didn't have a girl say no to a date with me for the rest of the time I was in high school!

Funny thing is that my father didn't have 1 single gray hair until he was 48! In my early 20's through my early 30's I was grayer than he was!

I have a strong jaw and a boyish figure, so with short hair I look really unfeminine.

I think the best hairstylist in the world is one who really looks at your face before they cut your hair. I good stylist is a real artist.

8. Not short, on me
Where I'm from, the crewcut was an anomaly and those of us who were little kids in the late '60s and early '70s ran around looking more like the Beatles than anything else. I've never liked having short hair. Not that I've ever had really long hair, either, like below the shoulders. I've got a different look now, related to my current vocation, but it's still longish hair. My natural, optimal length -- a hairdresser told me that the cut I wanted was a 'long shag,' like a '70s rock star would have -- is kinda like this:

Actually, kinda like DU's very own johnnie, for that matter, speaking of rock stars.

But my hair does what it wants to, and is famously undisciplined. I doubt I'll EVER have it short, though.

Looks more like this, now:

13. Long...
It just feels right. I keep cutting it off real short, but it just doesn't work. Long hair makes me feel like me.

I quit colouring my hair a long time ago - it's been red, blue, magenta, purple, bleached out. I've had it curly, straight, shaggy.

But whatever, I'll keep it long.

Khash.

Some women look better with short hair. Others look better with long. Others somewhere in-between. So, if it looks good on you, it's all good with me. I'm easy to please. :)

As for me: I have to have fairly short hair. Mine is thick, wavy and unmanageable when it's long. So, I'm a short hair kinda guy.

16. Short hair for me.....I've been wearing it short since I had my second
child over 30 years ago!

It's much easier to care for than long, and on me, it looks cute, or so I'm told....

It's funny, but I remember this incident from when I was much younger:

I was at my hairdresser's, getting my usual cut. In the chair next to mine, sat a young man with hair down to THERE....

He was getting a perm......

ONLY in California, my dear friends.....

A lot of guys I know have hair longer than mine...but I don't care one little bit about that!

17. You DO look cute with short hair!
I can see why you'd wear it that way, and it is definitely easier to care for shorter hair. I went from waist-length curly hair to above-the-shoulders, and it was so much easier to comb; cut my bath time in half.

...that accounts for the three kids. Talk about your target of opportunity! I agree that your hair looks amazing long. Too short you might be in danger of looking "preppie" and something tells me that you are NOT a preppie woman. Not with THOSE boots.

21. Depends on the person
Some girls look sooooo beautiful with long hair (example: lustrous black hair cascading down on someone of Asian descent) - heck, some guys look nice with long hair.

And some girls were born to wear a bob and make it look stunning.

As for you, I'm sure you look equally gorgeous any way you care to wear your hair.

Cherish the fact that unlike me, you won't ever have to face the decision point of choosing between short hair and looking like Cheech Marin or David Crosby.

And let me say it here. There ought to be a law against redheaded men shaving their heads. I don't like that shaved head look at all, but on a redhead it should be a crime.

31. Mine has been the same forever, I like it long, but then after shoulder
lenghth it turns into cotton candy. If I cut it short, it turns bozo, so I have hair as long as possible & trim it.

33. Shoulder length or shorter for me, thanks.
Every time I attempt to grow out some nifty hippy locks, I end up getting headaches and my hair just gets all in the way. I have always wanted that classic hippy girl look, but can't cope with the long hair hassles, so the shorter hair does it for me.

Odd you should mention this. I just cut my hair the shortest it has been since I was a little girl. It's above my shoulders right now. I like it. My aunt laughed at it. Oh well. I did it to make things a little more comfortable for me. It'll grow out all too soon.

Been wearing a chin-length bob for a few years now. It combines all the inconvenience of short hair with all the inconvenience of long hair: it requires frequent trimming but still falls in your face.

40. I'm going to get my hair cut again.
Last time I went in, I just had the color freshened and did not get my hair cut. However, when I was looking at pictures from Christmas weekend, I noticed a disturbing phenomenon. The more hair there is around my face, the fluffier it is, and the fluffier my hair is, the fluffier my face looks.

Shorter hair is more flattering on me.

Not short-short, though - that doesn't look good on me either.
