ATTRACTIVENESS IS COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

If you're pissed about someone not finding you attractive because you are ugly, odd-looking, too fat, too thin, too short, too tall, or whatever else -- you're better off w/out people like that because they're obviously judging on looks alone.

I intended this as a goofy "here endeth the debate" post with a :P thrown in, but hey, if you want to discuss, go on.

I confess I am inwardly and constantly furious at how I am treated in public. But with thirty years' experience behind me, I have to realize that I alone am responsible for my fury and I can mellow out if I want to.

2. I just wish people would stop telling me how sexy I am
;-) Just kidding, but I always get "Has anyone ever told you that you resemble a young Tom Hanks? Only better looking" (of course they have to throw that in)

5. I'll shut up
although I really didn't mean to start the debate. I thought the subjectivity of attractiveness was a given. I just wanted to highlight the misogyny inherent in not respecting a woman's right to reject someone.

6. and I thought that said inherent misogyny was a given --
at least on a progressive message board.

No need to shut up, though. :hi:

7. Yay for reason!
And speaking of reason, here's a fantasy: :silly:

If I had magical powers and could give people a gift, it would be to let everyone just be themselves. I think we'd all be a lot better off without all these goofy games and clues, and misunderstood 'signals.' If I may weigh in on this attractiveness debate for a moment: My baby's not exactly drop dead gorgeous--just a regular guy, kinda goofy lookin', kinda chunky--but so what? I love him because he's funny, he treats me well, we have a good time together, we have similar interests, we have our own interests that we share with each other, and we're really good friends. As far as I'm concerned, he's hot and that's what matters.

And Bertha, WTF with people being rude to you? I catch anybody doin' it, they get a swift kick in the pants. ;) I've seen your picture and you look like a beautiful, smart, happy, warm woman to me and if people can't see that they're just plain stupid.

8. Oh, hell, no one's rude to me here on that count.
I was talking about IRL. I didn't mean to mislead. :hi:

9. Oh I didn't think it was anybody here. I meant a virtual swift kick in the
pants, since I obviously wouldn't really be around if it happened. But if and when it does IRL, imagine me doing it to the jerk.

10. Looks might be what gets people together
but, it's not what keeps people together.

11. Agreed
I'm still sensitive about my looks, though. Lots of old trauma there, I can't just turn that off.
