"...and a most lovely lavender tie..."
My almost 6-year-old daughter wanted to get her father a lavender tie for Christmas. For weeks, it's all she wanted to do.

We have a Frank Sinatra Christmas album on which his adult children sang their own version of The Twelve Days Of Christmas. It opens with, "On the first day of Christmas, I gave my loving dad a most lovely lavender tie." Over the course of the song they give him scarves, golf clubs, pipes, combs, books, hankies, games, etc. Always my daughter loves the part about the lavender tie.

We went to Macy's and carefully picked the nicest of the ties in the lavender shades. We also selected a nice new dress shirt with which he can wear the tie. She is SO excited to be giving him a lavender tie, something he would certainly enjoy but never suspect.

Last night, my almost 4-year-old son was snuggling on his daddy's lap. Out of nowhere, he grinned and said, "Dad, we bought you a lavender tie for Christmas."

*groan*

1. It's okay.

You can get revenge when he's a teenager and you tell the story to his girlfriends.

2. I've been working in stores, and have heard the song
far too many times to enjoy it.
