Your Album of the Year for 2005.
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 10:47 AM by Beware the Beast Man
Most of the stuff I came across this year wasn't released in 2005 (my pick technically came out in 2004). While QOTSA and White Stripes released good discs this year, they paled compared to their earlier work.

My pick goes to "Future Perfect" by Autolux. If your into early 90's "shoegazer" stuff infused with a bit of pop (as well as Sonic Youth-ish noise rock), then you'll like it. I managed to get dolo amber and asthmaticeog into them as well.

It took us five fucking years to get it done so it is my favorite because I got so sick of it.

Getting tired of lo-fi indie rock from seratonin deficient white college kids? This is the album for you.

7. I will enthusiastically second that.
I've seen 'em live three times this year - SO much fun. Fantastic band. They could do for Eastern European music what the Pogues did for Irish folk.

11. This is probably cheating, but the 30th anniversary reissue of
Patti Smith's "Horses". Obviously the album itself is utterly brilliant, but the live version of the album, recorded in the Summer, also kicks serious ass (and she's nearly 60!).

"Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine ..."

I'll put my brother onto "Future Perfect" - it sounds like it might be his sort of thing.

14. Surprise surprise, I'm going with this one:
Black Lips

http://www.intheredrecords.com/pages/blacklips.html

Although that Dylan No Direction Home bootleg series is up there too. (I've been very...let's call it focused on music this year. As in I listened to about 5-6 records over and over and over. Perhaps there's a New Year's resolution hiding in this somewhere.)
