I'm beginning to think that the doctor messed up.
2.5 years ago, I had my gall bladder removed and a hernia repair (umbilical). It was repaired with stitches.

A little more than a year ago, I developed another hernia (ventral). I had it repaired on 12/5.

But I'm beginning to think that when the doctor fixed the ventral hernia (by using propylene mesh), he managed to pull the abdominal wall taut enough to re-injure the umbilical hernia.

I have a very large protrusion from my belly (it looks like the monster plant from Little Shop of Horrors because of the scar from the incision that looks like a smile). I thought having a hernia repaired meant that the bulges were going to be gone.

Not to mention that there is still pain. It's not there all the time, but it's bothersome nonetheless.

I see the doctor for a follow-up tomorrow. I know he's the one I have to ask for medical advice, so please don't think I'm asking you folks. I'm just venting. I'm very nervous that I'm going to have to have another surgery.

I thought after losing all this weight I would eventually have some skin removed, but now I'm beginning to feel like I never want to have another operation as long as I live. :(

3. That sounds upsetting, my dear MissMillie.....
One thing I'd recommend for tomorrow: Be sure and get ALL your questions answered!

Do NOT let him hustle you out of there until that happens, OK?

He owes you that much, anyway.....Good luck! And I hope you will let us know what he has to say.....

4. Yup, good advice from Peggy.

WRITE DOWN all your questions before you go and check them off the list when you're there. Have someone else sit in with you, and then after you leave the office, while still in the lobby, write down all the answers the doc gave you, before you forget. That's when it's good to have another person along, it's often too difficult to remember everything that was said in those high stress situations. And do it while you're still there in thelobby, in case you can't remember something important, so you can have a nurse get the answer again right away. Anyway, this is what we do in our family and it's a good system, IMHO.

Good luck.
