1. Elvis didn't think so
He actually stormed out of the session -- not real Elvis-like behavior -- because he couldn't take it any more, and the engineers pieced the final track together from what he'd laid down already. I think it was songs from the 1965 Harum Scarum session that inspired his "What can you do with this sh**?" comment, but I'd bet there were a few choice words echoing off the studio walls for "Old McDonald."

Some of the most inane movie songs have their own appeal -- the '60s 'travelogue' movies have attained a sort of cult-like legitimacy among those of us who grew up with them on TV -- but even some of the better recordings just hint at what might have been, as do his excellent non-soundtrack sessions of the '60s. A real shame that such talent was, really, squandered. :-(

3. That would explain his voice; I was thinking he was some kinda stoned.
But now that you mentioned the ticked-off story, it make sense.

Still, one LOL track.

4. Actually, from memory, I don't even think he completed the first take
Maybe they recorded a rehearsal run-through. Lots of creative splicing.

Yeah...pretty dire, and surreal.

He's a friend, and sometime dining acquaintance, of a good friend of mine. :D
