Kazakhstan Shuts Down Cheeky Borat Web Site

The authorities in Kazakhstan, angered by a comedian?s satirical portrayal of a boorish, sexist and racist Kazakh television reporter, have pulled the plug on his alter ego?s Web site, Reuters writes.

Sacha Baron Cohen plays Borat in his ?Da Ali G Show? and last month he used the character?s Web site www.borat.kz to respond sarcastically to legal threats from the Central Asian state?s Foreign Ministry.

A government-appointed organisation regulating Web sites that end in the .kz domain name for Kazakhstan confirmed on Tuesday it had suspended Cohen?s site.

?We?ve done this so he can?t badmouth Kazakhstan under the .kz domain name,? Nurlan Isin, president of the Association of Kazakh IT Companies, told Reuters. ?He can go and do whatever he wants at other domains.?

"Cohen, who is Jewish, responded to the legal threats on the www.borat.kz site in character, saying: “I have no connection to Mr Cohen and fully support my government’s position to sue this Jew.”

Did you see his show on HBO where he got some hicks from the South to join him in a "kill the Jews" song and dance?

I think I saw today some DVD ad on comedy Central - featuring Borat and the kz website - as place to order them.

4. As Borat? That show is way too painful for me to watch.

I loved Seinfeld from Episode one, but this one is pure Hollywood narcissism - where name dropping is considered plot line or humor. I wish HBO stops doing Hollywood "Mirror, mirror" - and returns to the good stuff.

7. He was on the British Comedy Awards last night as himself
giving tribute to producer Harry Thompson, who died last month. It's really, really weird seeing him being normal .. it's just too normal!

3. He nearly caused a riot at a rodeo! Too freaking funny!!
This happened almost a year ago...here's a link to the original story with an excerpt:

"After telling the crowd he supported America’s war on terrorism, he said, “I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards ... And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq.” He then sang a garbled version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”"

6. "Throw the Jew Down the Well" at the hick bar was disturbing, too.
Especially when people started singing along.

9. He definitely knows how to push buttons.
He is heir to Andy Kauffmann's style of comedy.
