Man Handcuffed For Selling Subway Token To Passenger
<snip>

ATLANTA -- He says he was just trying to help a fellow subway passenger who was having trouble with a token vending machine, and for his trouble, he ended up getting handcuffed and given a misdemeanor citation.

Donald Pirone, 42, was spotted selling a $1.75 token inside a station in Atlanta last week. It's against the law to sell the tokens, but instead of giving him a warning, a transit police officer decided to handcuff him and give him a citation.

The transit agency acknowledged that Pirone was selling the token at face value, and wasn't making a profit. But a spokeswoman said the law is the law, and that "fare abuse is a chronic problem."

Pirone told Atlanta radio station WSB that he'll fight the citation. But he said he'll have to ride the subway to court, because he doesn't have a car.
