3. Is that a trebuchet or a catapult?
I can't tell from the picture.

6. No, you're not. My grandfather once told me (probably the only advice I
ever got from any elder): "If you want people to think you're smart, the way to do it is to learn a little bit about a lot of things. You don't need to know everything about any one thing, just a little bit about a lot of different things."

And knowing a trebuchet from a catapult because there's no counterweight is one of those little things.

You're not a geek. You are, as they used to say, "well-rounded."

11. Or at least the appearance of omniscience.
Especially if you have kids.

But wait, maybe not; having Encyclopedia Dad right handy might get them into the habit of asking for answers instead of looking up those answers. But then again, with so much utter bullshit available on the Web, they're just as likely to NOT find the right answer by "looking it up" anymore...

Though even the traditional encyclopedias and dictionaries can have it wrong. At least 95% of them have the wrong definition of the "Spanish Main."

Yes, I'm wandering again.

8. This reminds me of my favorite episode of Northern Exposure.
Anyone? Gosh that show was great! But I am glad they decided against flinging the actual cow.

13. Habeo quinque catapultas in domo mea.
Sed eas non utor et non uti conor nisi quis in me manum moveat.
