I am utterly incapable of wrapping gifts.
I mean, I'm really, really, really bad at it.

I'm so bad, people always go "Aww, nice of you to let the kids help wrap."

I don't have kids. I'm simply a wrapping moron.

I'll get like one side all good, and the other is a train wreck. Or something I thought I'd wrapped well, the tape will pop off before Christmas. It's like I'm cursed. I should just put everything in a labeled trash sack.

Ho ho ho. :D

1. Me too
So I took it to the next level, and started to make them look idiotic in a sort of semi-artistic style - or so I hope.

2. I'm horrid at it too!! What I do though is
get the volunteer groups at the mall to do them for me! Usually a donation of a couple of dollars is all that's requested. Grandparents raising Grandchildren and Big Sisters are two that I've 'supported'
It's a great way to get gifts wrapped and help out :)

:hi:

4. I did a small one today
wrapping the entire thing in layer after layer of blue duct tape.

It should take about six hours to open. :eyes:

Now I notice that some gifts come in cutesy sexagonal or hexagonal boxes.

I have the defective "male" wrapping gene. The job gets done and I am not held to a high account for it.

18. Kids? Fuck, people ask how I taught the cats to do it...
I wrap gifts the pragmatic way now. I pay someone else to do it. No one wants a present that looks like I hate them.

19. not a male gene -- I'm terrible at it too ...
I've started using plain brown wrapping paper or unprinted newsprint, because with me, trying to match up the little patterns on Christmas or birthday paper is usually a big freakin' disaster. And it's not as obvious if there aren't any tiny holly wreaths etc. to get misaligned. And I'm hopeless at bows (even the pre-made ones, since I usually get the wrong color). I've been known to injure myself while doing ribbon curls with the scissors.

My "out" is that I can start railing about environmental sustainability, waste of materials, etc.

but my best friend's idea of festive wrapping is tying the handles of the walmart bag in a bow, so I do know what you're talking about.

Can you talk somebody into doing it for you?

because several family members are VERY GOOD. In fact, it's a Christmas tradition to have a wrapping contest. The contestants pick out the gift that each wrapped the best and submit it for critique. Points are awarded for creativity, best corners, and best pattern matching. Best of all, after several eggnogs the judging can become quite subjective and usually the family comes to a consensus on who won the contest - no hard feelings as they all get ripped to shreds.

We also keep a "box" box and points are also received for the box that has been recycled the most years. We've got childhood favorites, such as the Winnie the Pooh typewriter box, still going strong after ummmm....about 25 yrs and some from department stores that are long, long gone. Ah nostalgia! Sterling Linder, Higbee's, May Company, Halle's, Rike's
