*snip*

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6 - Mel Gibson, whose "The Passion of the Christ" was assailed by critics as an anti-Semitic passion play - and whose father has been on record as a Holocaust denier - has a new project under way: a nonfiction miniseries about the Holocaust.

1. Mel Gibson sure is one morbid mother fucker.
One brutality film after another. He just stays on the topic of brutality. And, no, I really do not want to be there when they open up HIS closet. I'd hate to think what he has in there. He has got to be some kind of secret serial killer or torturer of some kind. Somebody please take his money and his power away before he makes a movie detailing how to tortue people without getting caught. He makes me wanna :puke:.

4. I cannot.
He has been on the topic so much lately that I think he needs a psych evaluation at this point.

25. At least he's not remaking "Heil Honey, I'm Home"
the quickly abandoned British sitcom about Adolf & Eva moving next door to a jewish couple and the hilarity that ensues.

(disclaimer - I haven't actually seen it & defenders claim it sends up 50's sitcoms, but still :wtf: )

6. Non-fiction? Was "Passion of the Punching Bag" also non-fiction?
Was Gibbon there to witness it personally? And why did Gibbon leave out Jesus' life? (simple. The Truth would enrage repukes.)

So when Gibbon wants to write his version of the Holocaust and pawn it off as being truth, he can go enlist himself.

7. I think Mel should do some in-depth personal research
Someone lock him up for months on end with barely enough food and water to survive and rags to wear and make him do hard labor.

8. He's the new "wacko" in Hollywood.
The guy is nuts. He needs to face it. He even has that crazed, dazed, glossed over look in his eyes like most repub sympathizers do. It's scary.

10. Of course he can do it. And we are going to enjoy it!

" F-- you! I don't mean f-- you; I mean "f-- you" in general. I don't have to answer any of these questions anymore. I'm a hell of a lot wealthier than I once was."

11. Can I make a little suggestion?
Let's see what he produces before we slate it.

If this turns out to be Schindler's List mark II then it will be a very good thing. We've got no idea what he has up his sleeve as yet.

12. Yeah, well... it's hard to imagine him portraying it truthfully...
since we've already seen what he did with Jesus :)

I'm going to assume he will be just as anti-semitic and macabre and dishonest in his portrayal of the holocaust as he was in his portrayal of Jesus' crucifixion.

28. Did you see that film?
It shows him being tortured and crucified by the ROMANS. I wish someone would explain to me how the fuck that's anti-Semitic.

17. Are you saying a devout Christian denouncing mass murder is "bizarre"?
I find it normal and, given how un-Christ-like some public Christians act today, quite refreshing. We know he isn't, as some idiot poster below is claiming, going to do a Holocaust denial story. That would and could never air in America. Probably it's just Gibson's way of gunning for an Emmy.

Scorn here is utterly uncalled for.

23. Why?
Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, The Patriot, Braveheart.

He's not a one film man - if you take all of them a better argument would be that he twists history to be anti-British (which admittedly is an Australian national sport).

Also, I can't help but wonder whether this is a response to his father - that is by making a film which seeks to portray the grotesque nature of the Holocaust he can in a sense repent. This may sound somewhat screwy to you, but trust me, within the traddy Catholic mindset it can make sense.

18. He's basing it on a story about a dutch family and the jews they hid
1. The dutch were particularly brave in their resistance movement. Many participants were involved for religious reasons, others because the Netherlands had a history of freedom of thought and religion.
2. I didn't see "The Passion", so I can't judge it's merits. I will see it once I get a DVD player, or it comes to HBO. I was curious about it before it came out, for a lot of reasons.
3. Mel is not necessarily to the right, politically. He is smart enough not to get involved in politics. He did not make "The Passion" as a political statement, he made a movie based on his religious beliefs. The way people on both extremes responded to it is not his responsibility, whether it's the lunatic I saw on the local news who took her 2 year old to see it or a group of protestors who think it trashes jews, which is silly, because the main character and all his friends are jews.

24. They say...
... that Janeane Garofalo should go back to acting and stop talking politics altogether.

I say that it's Mel Gibson who must be banned from politics.

Another fine right-wing Australian export, along with Rupert Murdoch.
