OKAY, I live in a state with idjits!
People are already trying to put their ice houses out on the lakes, even though we had unseasonably warm temps until last week. How much do you want to guess that someone goes through the ice and dies this weekend...

I swear to goddess, sometimes Minnesota should be renamed "Darwin Award Central".

4. No doubt
The funniest thing I ever heard was a story told by Garrison Keillor about a practical joke involving a cow and a second story bedroom. I felt sad for the cow, but the situation had me practically wetting myself.

7. Don't remember that one!
We listen to Keillor a lot. Apparently we will all become Lutherans.

8. LOL
:hi:

Garrison Keillor is a master of the spoken word, and I do not think anyone else telling the same story could have elicited such laughter from me.

We have Garrison Keillor CDs that we listen to while driving long distances. Very entertaining.

at the edge of the praire...

Has it been quiet or just semi-noisy?

12. I am sorry, that shit is insane
I thought ice fishing was about getting away from civilization to drink schnapps and fart for a couple of days!

Those crowds are crazy.

:hi:

Gull is great during the summer!

13. Didn't they pay attention to that news story out of WI last week?
Or maybe it was the week before-the daughter who fell through the ice and the father who died trying to rescue her.
If two ice skaters in WI fell through the ice a week or so ago that should be proof enough that it's not solid enough for ice houses in MN. It's not like there's a massive difference in the weather in either state.

14. One would think
but there is this sport here...when the ice starts to open up in the spring...people go out on the lakes riding snowmobiles and try to jump the open areas....

15. I remember that!
Doesn't it usually involve alot of liquor before getting on the snowmobile?
Or maybe that was just in my family.

17. Copious amounts of alcohol
In my family, we had a tradition at Thanksgiving. Everyone would travel to my grandpa's house in Milwaukee for the holiday, then Friday night, we would all get exceedingly lit and go sledding, and end up at Lake Michigan where we would go swimming.

Fucking crazy people, all of us...but at least we weren't breaking through the ice, since Lake Michigan was not frozen yet.

20. I used to live south of Milwaukee.
It was a tradition to get drunk and jump in the cold water in my family. And there was always that one idiot who wanted to break into the lighthouse in my hometown.
I should remind you-Lake Michigan didn't look as nasty back then.

It's just that they do it themselves. Very efficient when done properly.

25. There are a lot of stupid people everywhere, I guess...
This story of yours is an example of that!

There are plenty of folks in California like that too....just not with ice houses....

:loveya:

More likely to see dune buggies, and off-road vehicles and like that...

I just thought it was pretty stupid, especially with two ice deaths in Wisconsin last week.

I guess the ice in Minnesota is of higher quality than that in Wisconsin. :eyes:

each other in idiotic accidents, I think of it as a cleansing of the gene pool... I can't be sad, sadly.
