Poll question: Favorite John Lennon Song?
Beatles or Plastic Ono or solo.

Since the "Lennon-McCartney" compositions were more often than not one or the other, I included the ones that were either 100% Lennon, or so predominant as to not matter.

25 years. In the words of the Rossington-Collins Band, "Dear Sir Lennon, where are you now?"

3. 'in my life' and...
Baby's in Black ~

Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue,
Tell me, oh what can I do?
She thinks of him and so she dresses in black,
And though he'll never come back, she's dressed in black.
Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue,
Tell me, oh what can I do?
I think of her, but she only thinks of him,
And though it's only a whim, she thinks of him.
Oh how long will it take,
Till she sees the mistake she has made?
Dear what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue,
Tell me, oh what can I do?
Oh how long it will take,
Till she sees the mistake she has made?
Dear what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue,
Tell me, oh what can I do?
She thinks of him and so she dresses in black,
And though he'll never come back, she's dressed in black.
Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue,
Tell me, oh what can I do?

9. I voted for Imagine, as well.
What a progressive mind:

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
.
.
.
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

There's just too many to choose from. Of his solo songs, in addition to what's on your list, I like "Number 9 Dream" and "Mind Games".

A minor masterpiece. "Trying to shovel smoke with a pitchfork in the wind."

The new remix/remaster of Walls and Bridges was just released, by the way.

17. Our first dance was "In My Life." :)
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

I don't think I will ever get sick of that song.

There are dozens of great Lennon songs, though, with and without the Beatles, so it's very hard to pick.

He's saying (my take anyway) don't talk anarchy and destruction, then go out bar hopping. Fix yourself then change the world for the better.

on edit, got to love his Happy Christmas(War is Over).

That song, in my opinion, has always been the stalwart song of Lennons...maybe not his best, or most musically orchaestrated...but for me, its my favorite of his....brings back memories, indeed.

27. "God"
I just played this song on my overnight show; it's been my favorite Lennon song forever, it seems...

God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain

I'll say it again

God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain

I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in Tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in Mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in Yoga
I don't believe in Kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me...and that's reality

The dream is over
What can I say?
the Dream is Over
Yesterday
I was the Dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
and so dear friends
you'll just have to carry on
The Dream is over....

29. From the choices given it's definitely 'Imagine'
But my favorite 'Beatles' song by far is 'A Day in the Life' which I believe was a true Lennon/McCartney collaboration in that they each wrote different sections of the song.

30. "How?" . .. well maybe not my "favorite" but definitely near the top.
How can I go forward when I don't know which way I'm facing?
How can I go forward when I don't know which way to turn?
How can I go forward into something I'm not sure of?
Oh no, oh no

How can I have feeling when I don't know if it's a feeling?
How can I feel something if I just don't know how to feel?
How can I have feelings when my feelings have always been denied?
Oh no, oh no

You know life can be long
And you got to be so strong
And the world is so tough
Sometimes I feel I've had enough

How can I give love when I don't know what it is I'm giving?
How can I give love when I just don't know how to give?
How can I give love when love is something I ain't never had?
Oh no, oh no

You know life can be long
You've got to be so strong
And the world she is tough
Sometimes I feel I've had enough

How can we go forward when we don't know which way we're facing?
How can we go forward when we don't know which way to turn?
How can we go forward into something we're not sure of?
