Anyone else give their doggies table scraps?
I know what the vets say...but, I remember my "old" vet from childhood telling my mom to put bacon grease on the dogs food once a week to keep her skin nice...

My jack russell mix started having the dry skin thing; we don't eat bacon...so I poured some cooking oil on her food--her skin cleared up in a couple of weeks.

She also eats scrambled eggs, green beans, cheese, and brocolli...

Anyone else?

1. My two Bostons have
very weird stomachs... they get irritated alot.

I sometimes boil them lean hamburger meat and rice, or I'll steam some chicken and carrots... they really like it and their coats feel REALLY good after a few days of that!

2. Definitely!
I can't scrape a raw carrot without the dogs running into the kitchen. They love fruits (especially bananas and peanut butter) and vegetables. I also give them leftover rice and pasta. They love tofu.

I always put a teaspoon of cod liver oil or safflower oil on their food too.

3. I don't feed my dog many table scraps, but she does get any
meat, egg and other high protein leftovers that I have. I also let her have bones from meat that has been cooked, except for hollow poultry bones and fish bones. Most of her diet is high quality dry dog food.

4. No, my Golden has bladder crystals and is only allowed to eat
special prescription food. And my Pug is too sensitive to eat people food - she throws it all up.

5. My sister doesn't exactly feed scraps.
She feeds her dogs ground raw meat and bones. (We feed our cats the same thing, but you didn't ask about kitties.) They used to have bad skin problems and now they're great. I have no confidence in commercial pet foods since they almost killed or kitties.

6. No I cant stand a dog begging while I'm eating.
That just drives me absolutely nuts. Also I cant stand the scrounging.

Its bad enough I have a bird who tells me to eat shit when I dont give her what I'm eating!

7. All the time
One is overweight and the other is too damn skinny. I try to give the skinny one 'extras' while I'm cooking but the fat one always hears me doing it a comes begging and then I feel guilty. Wrapped around their little paws!

8. Up to 10% of total intake in table scraps
is ok as long as there's no onions. (Causes Heinz body anemia which is 100% fatal)
