So today I was at JoAnn fabric
and there was a white woman, maybe 35, there buying fabric that was green, with some black, yellow, and red, very African looking. I overheard her telling the clerk that it was THE ONLY Kwanzaa fabric in Northern California. The way she said it, I knew she was *one of us.*

The clerk had obviously never heard of Kwanzaa, so I busted in and said "kwanzaa, eh?" and we chatted for a bit.

When it was time for me to take me leave, I said "Me-- Happy Holidays!"

The woman started laughing hysterically!

They've created a monster!!!!

You think if we used the phrase "rights of the disabled" we'd do better?

We would still be whiney militant anti-smokers, but we would also be cripples...

It's a topic that's hard to walk away from for me.

I don't understand how the death industry has managed to totally brainwash that many people. It's beyond me.

Lately I've been studying and doing work. And working on my webpage, finally. http://go.owu.edu/~sbrubens/

And my friend and I are going to try and get a show on our campus radio station.

16. As to music
I'm pretty tolerate of all types. But our show would be specifically anime music and soundtracks and Asian pop/rock.

And I'll just leave the link. In another week or so it'll probably show up when you search TimeChaser anyways :)

18. OK
I'm not afraid to admit that my musical knowledge is very limited.

I got a new laptop, and I need to install iTunes and get my rock and roll on again. Might do some downloading too...

I got my first christmas present to myself today.... It's called "Kingfishers, Bee-Eaters, and Rollers." I ordered some others I think I will save until the day. I also got one of those countdown calenders Skinner's sister was plugging, but I'm giving it to my mom.

How's school going? Finals are coming up, no?

stranger things have happened.

I get mistaken for a man in real life a lot...even with "the girls" all pokin' out and stuff. So much so that I have been tempted to have a t-shirt made that says "NO I AM NOT A DRAG QUEEN!"

31. I get that *ALL* the time
The most ironic time it happened was when I was 8.5 months pregnant with my son...you know...belly out to *there". I was at a buffet restaurant, and some guy comes up, and bumps me out of the way, and said, "Oh, excuse me, Sir!" I just about went all medieval on the moran!

23. I was told my senior year of HS
"Xema, you have the biggest vocabulary of anyone I know, yet you start EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE with the word "DUDE."

I'm not usually as well spoken as I am on DU. IRL my vocabulary is all profanity, ironic phrases, and obscure slang.

Keep it real! :hi:

35. I've been called a "walking thesaurus"
And some have accused me of "using big words to try to impress others". Frankly the few who've done that are the type who barely graduated HS and just couldn't understand what the hell I was saying because the most challenging publication they ever read was a comic book. I've been an avid reader since age four, love classic literature, and by my nature just end up using words I learn through reading in my everyday vocabulary.

Nonetheless when talking amongst friends I do tend to slip into very casual speech, using a good deal of colloquialisms and profanities. Even here on DU as I've become more familiar with everyone I have relaxed and become more casual in my manner of "speech". I now post a good number of my curses in full, whereas I formerly censored one or more of the letters, and am more informal in many cases than I was previously.

36. Word.
The curse of the nerd-girl. :(

I absolutely hate it when I'm talking to someone and I use a word and they are instantly alienated.... It's depressing to feel like a freak, but it's more depressing to lose respect for someone just because their vocabulary is a shriveled, emaciated husk of what it should be.
