Help! Need satellite radio advice
Hi DU'ers!

I'm wondering if anyone has gotten XM satellite radio and could give me some suggestions on what to buy. Having it to play at home is definitely a requirement. I'd like to have it in the car but I think that will be a big hassle so I'm willing to settle for home.

Is it better to get a "boombox" type of thing, or some kind of unit that can plug into a stereo? What are the pros and cons of each option? Any specific equipment to recommend?

1. Depends how serious and how much $$$. I'm Ok with a Roady 2.
If you're an audiophile you're going to be disappointed, even if you get a Polk tuner to go with hi-fi seperates. Satellite audio can leave something to be desired.

However for "around the house" and "in the car" I get by fine with a Roady 2 with a home kit. The car kit of course stays in the car, and the home kit stays in the house. The radio moves from house to car. I use the in-built FM modulator when I don't have a direct connection available. It's by far the cheapest means to get introduced to satellite radio.

The Roady 2 has a boombox that you can add to it.

As time progresses and if you get more hooked, you might want to get something like the MyFi - a portable satellite radio receiver. This can work like the Roady 2 but is smaller and of course can be worn and used like a personal stereo or i-pod. It can store X amount of hours of programming so if you're in a place where you can't get a signal you aren't left with nothing.

If you really get hooked you can get a tuner for your hi-fi system if you have such a nice hi-fi separates system. You can also replace your car stereo with one that has XM built into it.

For more info you can try the fan sites like xm411.com or xmfan.com

Mark.

6. I think we have this too
and a Delphi boombox

Advantage, if I'm not mistaken..you can also do a playback up to 30 minutes...unusual feature..

We love XM radio...have it in 2 cars and the house. For the road, you cannot beat it as when you travel through big states, it saves your sanity to have different radio stations. For us, channel 150 (edgy comedy) is one of our favs...helps pass the time and laff our hearts out! We also were able to hear a basketball game and see the scores when we had to pick up a relative at the airport.

3. I got an XM MiFi. It's great! And easy.

It can work in the house, in the car, and as a walkman-type of radio.

http://www.xmradio.com/myfi/

It works wirelessly in your car through your FM stereo.
It can hook up in a cradle to your home stereo system.
Or you can clip it on your belt and go for a walk or a jog.

You can record up to 5 hours of programming to listen to later.

4. That looks pretty cool.
I could "tape" Randi and listen to her when I'm not supposed to be working. Hmmm, there's a concept!

5. Yes, it works particularly well to record a talk show to listen to later.

And with XM you get MSNBC so you can record Olbermann's show and listen to it later too.
