4. I remember her from Iowa papers
taking cheap shots at Al Gore. So I am not a huge fan.

Plus she has never answered one of my emails, but then again, neither has Krugman.

I believe she is a disciple of Ayn Rand. She mentioned John Galt in one of her columns and her email addy is liberties. To me that hints of libertarian. She attacks the boy king now, but she was part of the gang that enabled his coronation. Plus, she doesn't read Katha Pollitt or Susan Faludi.

5. She spent four years bashing the Clinton,
and then moved on to bashing Gore about petty shit. She only took to bashing the BFEE when they would not let her into the white house.

9. She looked good on Letterman last week, too.
She was wearing a gorgeous silky dress, and the music they played on her entrance was some bump 'n' grind number.

10. I'm a fan of her writing, but she's a little nutty.
At the risk of catching flak for it, I'll suggest what she really needs is about two weeks of almost nonstop sex with some new love. Her juices are backed up, and it's making her crazy. On the one hand, she's spent the last year marketing her sexuality, alluding to it, talking about people talking about her personal life, and I haven't heard anyone talk about her personal life except HER.

I don't know if she's gay or straight, but either way, she needs to get laid. No one talks like she does in interviews unless they have sex on the mind. I get the feeling that she's sexually stunted, which wouldn't be surprising, given her era and her Catholic upbringing. She seems to be a basketcase of conflicts regarding the topic.

Is it me, or has she been acting like a coy, 15 year old in interviews?

13. Actually, I think you 'hit the nail on the head'.
My opinion is that she is straight and likes men. Likes men alot! I have heard her make a few racey comments on certain men.

I think the problem is one she has wrote about. Men stay away from her because of her intelligence and success. I would tend to agree that most men tend to gravitate toward women that are not as smart or as successful as they are. This is a woman who can emasculate a man via the written word. That alone probably terrifies most men that she meets.

Hey Maureen! I'm game!

Maureen IS emasculating, probably a defense mechanism rooted in behaviors all the way back to her teen years. It backs away men who might otherwise pursue her sexually.

Truthfully, she needs a free weeks with a vibrator, then she needs to hook up with someone she finds hot.

I get the feeling she has never busted out sexually, and needs to badly. What most of us experience in the 20s or 30s (true sexual awareness), she never did.

20. I think you are echoing her talking point there
Considering how poorly read she is on women's issues (see my post above) and also on her apparent lack of reasoning in choosing Bush over Gore, I am not that keen on her intellect. She ain't smart or well read, she's clever, eloquent, and snarky.

Any woman, even Big Show's wife, can cut her lover's throat while he sleeps. The difference is that Modo is nasty and petty enough to actually do it, probably with very little provocation. It is not her intellect or writing ability that terrifies men, it is her arrogance and nastiness that men are not attracted to. Like me, she has a high opinion of herself, so she cannot find anyone she thinks is her equal. Trouble is, the men she would see as equals can easily do better than her. They can find women who are younger, prettier, smarter, and not as nasty and self-centered.

21. Michael Douglas
They dated several years ago. He dumped her ( I heard that somewhere) for Elizabeth Vargas (now the ABC WNT co-anchor) and then of course he met Catherine Zeta-Jones and well.....go figure that one.

12. Methinks that Maureen Down is a "bad girl"!
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 01:21 AM by freethought
I have seen her interviewed an number of times. And despite the title of her recent book I don't beleive for a second that she is a man-hater. In some interviews she has occasionally let something slip or made comments that raised eyebrows.
Saw her on Charlie Rose one night. I can't remember exactly what she was asked or exactly how she answered but she made a racey reference to Derek Jeter.
I think she would be fun on a date!

I know what would be great! Double up with Maureen Dowd and Arianna Huffington! Oh yes!

"Thanks for being on the show, Maureen, I'd like to have you at my breakfast table more than once a week!" or something of that vein.

I was laughing my ass off for days.

15. She reminds you of a bridge?
Sorry. I wouldn't piss on MoDo if she was on fire.

If she hadn't spent all her energies in 2000 trying to make Al Gore look like a psychopath, we might not be where we are now.

Like Bartcop says: "MoDo: she hates everybody."

For my part, I wouldn't do her with Ann Coulter's, well, never mind, you know.
