2. Opera length pearls
I think I know what they are -- they're a certain length of glove. I believe they go up to the elbows.
Do you remember opera length pearls? When I graduated in 1981, I wanted to buy pearls. That was the thing. I remember shopping for them and that they came in funny lengths, like matinee, opera, and one other length. I ended up getting matinee.

I think they look really sexy on the right woman. I'm an atavist, though.

Life sucks and then you die.
Wish you had an IM addie. Maybe I could catch you more often.

13. That's what I figured
So I haven't emailed you. Figured she's got more than enough on her plate. Still I have missed you. I even said I couldn't carry on without my partner in crime. So glad to see you again, my dear.

I thought you had my email address? If case not, I'm PMing it to you.

4. I wore them in high school.
Not because they were popular, but because I liked the way they looked.
I was an odd person. I also wore forties-style dresses in high school because of the way that they looked (I graduated in the early 90's).

8. Oh, yeah...dancing.
If your date pulled her arm across the back of your neck while you were dancing, she could lay it open to the bone.

12. I still have some opera length gloves...
with tiny pearl buttons on the inside of the wrist. You can open them, tuck the superflous part in and eat 'finger food' at fancy parties.
When I lived in Mexico, I used to have kid gloves custom made to match certain outfits. (Yes, I'm very old - the gloves were not very expensive then).

My ex gave me opera length pearls - I had them shortened to matinee. They're 'mellow' with age now and I love 'em.

Like everyone, I live in jeans and sometimes miss the more formal life. Tomorrow I get to go to a charity dinner (Woman's Shelter) and will have a chance to play Cinderella. That'll probably do me for the next few years. :)

14. When I was in high school I used to wear them w/
jeans and a tuxedo shirt. I loved how they looked together. They also look interesting w/ a leather blazer.
Then again, I was never a normal kind of girl.

16. The gloves or the pearls?
Normal? What's normal? I'm into classic clothes - with a bit of 'eccentric' here and there. It's great to have your own style and the 'comfort' of knowing yourself that comes along with it. And I can say that 'cause I'm 70+ and still have 'attitude'. :)

17. Gloves and pearls both.
I never looked like a normal teenager and got hell for it. I did notice those same nasty girls would "copy" certain aspects of my style and claim it as their own.

I also love old pendants, rings and brooches. I like to remake them into something a bit simpler but keep the main components still there. I like the details that used to be present in older jewerly.

19. It's funny, isn't it?
When you're an 'original' people hate it and copy it all at the same time.

I like old jewelry too and have some nice old rhinestone and aurora borealis pieces that I treasure. The way they set stones 30-plus years ago was amazing in the workmanship. You ought to post some pictures of your creations one day. Bet a lot of folks would enjoy that.

20. I bet you have an amazing collection!
Someday I will get a digital camera (or at least develop the film I already have) and I will post. My collection is small but it grows every chance I get. I love to scour garage sales in the spring and summertime, looking for unique pieces. The price is right and you can find things there that no one else wants!

21. Garage sales r r friend!
I used to have a spot in a mall and garage saled like crazy. I kinda miss it. I've been toying with the idea of doing it again on a smaller scale - though 2 of the malls here are belly-up. (I hate my job and surrendering my independence to a micro-managing ninny makes me very vinegary).

I still go into thrift stores when I have time. Nothing thrills me more than finding something perfectly wonderful for a dollar or two.

I'll look forward to your pictures!

25. That's what I like to call it!
they've even had old caskets for sale in there. They rent or sell them out to area frat houses and organizations for use in their haunted houses.
I love that place!

27. I love OLD jewelry...Costume jewelry. Have to stay away
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 11:48 PM by KoKo01
from the Flea Markets and such because I spend hours combing through what friends tell me is "junk." Other friends have said I'm a "crow" ...anything that glitters I just have to stop by.

But, I love old pins in particular. Never get to wear them...but have drawers full. I just like having them around. Ties me to the past in some way that makes me feel good on a rainy day.

23. Yes indeed!
I still have a real alligator bag that I bought in NYC the winter JFK was killed. It's French - and quite nice - but I haven't carried it in over 35-40 years.

My mother was always at me because I was a 'little black dress and pearls' person when I was married. She thought me drab. (There was a reason her Dad referred to her as 'the Gypsy', God love her).

28. Fun Times........really...given what we deal with these days...
but I know that maybe other folks didn't find them fun times. In my other life I'd like to live in a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Movie...and never leave it.

As much as I like "casual living" ...there are times when I just wish there was more...so I could wear my "pins" that I save and be "catered too" like folks in those old 30's Movies.

We live in a harsh time.....I'd like a gentle break once in awhile.

Otherwise my jeans and stuff are good and I'm okay with that...still........sigh....

What's Up? Sheesh...

Yes..I do remember them. They are in the attic in a trunk. Should I sell them on E-Bay? I was figuring a "Costume Museum" might like them in my old age....I save everything for that Museum. :D It might end up a "Museum in the Sky," though.

31. I know...one would hope...things go in cycles they say...
I don't see that coming for me...but maybe one of these days I'll open that "Costume Museum" somewhere. I'll charge admission and hope someone will be interested.... It might work out...who knows. Some of us will always enjoy that stuff...it kind of stays with you forever if you like nostalgia.

I'll invite you out here to NC, SoCal... I might be getting to the point when a "Costume Museum" is more rewarding that this "Getting Dems Elected" Crap we've been doing for how many years now? Sheesh...we could be working on a PhD..by now... some of us... for the time and work we've put in here these past years. It's nicer to remember opera gloves and good times...every once in awhile.

35. A 400 Mile Garage Sale Trip? ......Drooling with Envy!..........
I haven't done that since I lived in New England and used to live for Saturdays. Where I am now...it's all Leather Sofa's and Mission Furniture made in Indonesia from "Rooms to Go" and stainless steel and granite counter tops in the kitchen with everything from Crate n' Barrel. Folks here aren't into "finds." I still love my "clutter" and my "finds," from all those years of hunting. It's FUN!

Fancy stores used to give you the big fancy hangar, so people would notice it in your closet:)and a very swanky heavy vinyl garment bag with a slanted zipper.. and alterations were free :)

Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 12:19 AM by DanCa
Back on maxwell street they had these ice cream trucks that made bannana splits that came with glass boats. You could keep the glass for an about fifty cents or so.
