Funny weather - when it's raining, it's warmer but as soon as it stops, it gets really cold. I have fuzzy slippers and sweats on and a fire going as well as a cup of hot chocolate and I'm still cold. :scared:

15. Bay area weather is really strange
First time I was there, 11 years ago, I was watching the weather report on tv. They said "Highs today will be between 68 and 82". WTF? Well, we found out about how cold it can get, and how fast. We had been down at Fisherman's Wharf, and were standing waiting for the cable car to get there. The sun started to go down, and I swear, the temp fell 20 degrees in 10 minutes! We were wearing shorts and tank tops and sandals. Sheesh! Good thing we had just bought a couple of sweatshirts. Didn't help a lot, but better than nothing. We learned our lesson fast!

26. that's why they have all those sweatshirts for sale near there!
we wore only long pants and sweaters and layers when we were there.

A good friend of mine moved to Seattle many years ago. I remember how shocked she was when she got stuck on one of those floating bridges in a snow storm. ( we are used to snow storms in Pittsburgh, but I guess they are not typical there.)

31. I wonder if it was the really bad snow storm we had in the
early 90's. I worked 15 miles from where I lived, and it took me 5 hours to get home! It was mostly because of all the abandoned cars littering the roads. Never been through anything like that before (or since, thank goodness!)

36. yeah, I think that was the one
I remember seeing pix on tv and hearing about it from her. She had an experience similar to yours.

I always smile a little when I hear about people scared to drive when there is an inch of snow, say in North Carolina, or more temperate climes, since that is nothing to us here. But then we have been trained to drive in snow since we were young, and I realize that for people not used to it, it is very scary. I can't count the times I have slid off a road into a ditch or up or down a hill, or what have you, you just get used to it.

39. Plus, the snow here is very wet snow, not dry powder.
And, Seattle was built on glacial ridges, so everything is either on top of, on the side of, or at the bottom of a hill. There are many streets that get closed off because they are so steep it would be a suicide run to try to get up or down them!

44. I live on a street like that
often the borough closes off our street when it's really snowy or icy, but inevitably cars slide into our garage. I am embarrassed to say it almost became an entertainment for us, luckily no one has been hurt.

(look, some fool ignored the orange cones, look, now, there they go!
as they realize the hill is really steep.) ;)

58. Well, also most people in areas that don't get snow
Don't have tires suitable for it. When I first moved to California, the guys at the tire shops thought I was seriously overdoing it with my all-seasons (they call 'em 'mud and snows' out here) but I grew up in Vermont and I'd feel nekkid without good tires! They came in handy a few years back when we had a pretty good snowfall - up where I lived at the time, we got 6 inches or so. Not much for Vermont but a major blizzard here! LOL

Ours isn't a rescue mutt; we got her from a private home, but I think she may have ended up in the shelter had we not adopted her. Her momma was a Pomeranian; don't know what the daddy dog was. But she's a cutie. Yours sounds adorable!

57. I'm freezing too
and I'm in a sub-tropical climate! It's supposed to be about 30 by sunrise and it's been raining all day (3.5 inches) so I hope the roads are passable. There is nothing more dangerous than drivers in South Carolina when this type of weather sets in. :scared:

65. Lots of people here don't know how to drive in the rain either!
And given the amount of rain we get, you'd think they'd get a clue!

77. I guess so...
I'm rather skinny so I have no natural insulation against this stuff. Hopefully, it will improve soon.
