LOL! My sister told my mom she wants to join the NG tonight
And I'm conflicted, because they both of my parents back Bush and so does she (She's 17 so she couldn't vote) and I think it would be poetic justice and ironic if she wound up in Iraq though. My mom who supports the war is the ultimate hypocrit because she was against my sister doing that. What is Sasquatch supposed to do?

1. Point out to your mom how hypocritical it is to back Bush

and not enlist if you are able.

On edit, I hope your sister, if she enlists, comes back alive...I would hate to see you lose a family member, no matter how much said family member is a bushbot.

9. That's what I hope will happen too
I might tell my Anti-Bush, democratic Grandparents tommorrow so they'll do something about it.

2. Just shake your head, sigh, and hope for the best
That is, if she does end up in Iraq that she comes back alive. Hopefully smarter but not permanently damaged.

3. I would be more concerned for your sister than the irony of the situation
Don't let her go! Even if she doesn't get killed, she may come back with PTSD. About 1 in 4 soldiers get PTSD from going over there. Tell your mom how horrible the war is, and that other mothers' kids are dying over there all the time, and that many of them feel the same way she does, but they have no other choice.

But don't let your sister go, for god's sake!

would be poetic justice OR ironic if she wound up in Iraq, I think it would be tragic. I would be doing my utmost to convince my sister to NOT enlist.

just my 2 cents.

best of luck to her.

6. I thought you meant "National Geographic." Had me a tad confused.
But when I read your post...nope...uh-uh...if there's any way to dissuade her, it'd be worth trying. Not always, but right now I wouldn't be keen on joining the Guard because there's too much likelihood that my mission would be anything but guarding the nation. This nation, anyway. :-(

10. That's what I'll probably tell her something like that
I wonder how horrifying this will be to my grandparents if she died in battle.

12. Dying would just be dying, not dying she could end up with serious problms
If she were to die, she'd be dead. This would be tragic. If she were not to die, she'd have to deal with having been in a situation that is totally wrong on so many levels. Can she deal with the aftermath of having people hating her and trying to kill her? Can she deal with the aftermath of killing others, not "the enemy" but other kids her age and younger and older? Can she deal with constant stress and uncertainty and still be emotionally sound? How many limbs is she willing to lose?

A few questions for her to ponder. If she wants to help, there are so many other ways that are more positive, suggest some of those. Simple way to visit another part of OUR great country and be of great help is pack up, go to the gulf coast, volunteer recovery work while eating out of a FoodnotBombs/Rainbow family kitchen. She won't get paid but she'd be doing a hell of a lot more good AND doing what Mr.bush hasn't but needs to.

Good luck and peace
