30. Not ready for breaking news: Gwyneth Paltrow is P.G. again!
The first thought I had after hearing that is that her little daughter APPLE -- might have a sibling named -- ORANGE.

So when they have their sibling fights, it would be like comparing APPLES to ORANGES.

ORANGE you glad your mother didn't name you APPLE?

An actor/actress couple just had a daughter, they named her Violet. My first thoughts when I heard this on a newscast today, "What a beautiful name for a young lady."

on edit: BlueIris made note of this earlier with, 'Violet, good job Jen and Ben' (Not sure which famous couple they are but I love that name!)

I wanted to name my daughter Dina Suzanne. But we didn't want it to sound like DIE-nah, as in Dinah Shore. We didn't want to spell it DEENA, either.

We compromised by naming her Linda Michelle.... but Nora might have been nice, too.

54. I'm going to be the odd ball here--
I like what society construes as 'boy's names' for girls. If I had a a daughter, I would name her Michael, Ryan, Christopher, Alex or something like that.

I've always liked boy's names for girls. I'm weird, I know it.

One day I heard Michael Lerned say her mother named her Michael so that no one could ever discriminate against her based on her sex if they saw her name on paper (like a resume). Ever since that day, I felt kind of validated for wanting to name a daughter that way. No one could ever get her resume and turn her down because they think she's a girl! Getting her foot in the door is the first step--that's half the battle, right?

There used to be lots of us. Growing up, there was always another Susan in the class. Now the only Susans I meet are close to me in age.

70. Rhiannon. Elizabeth. Siobhan. Saoirse.
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 09:37 AM by WritingIsMyReligion
The first is Welsh ("great queen" and also the name of the fertility goddess), and the last two, Irish ("Jeanne" and "freedom," respectively.) Siobhan is pronounced "sho-VAWN," and Saoirse, either "SEER-sha" or "SAYR-sha." Yeah, I'm into weird stuff. :P :P

I have a rather unusual Norwegian name and enjoy both that the names are not usual (folks remember them, once they finally remember the names), they are tied to my heritage, and they are rather pretty in their English translations.

Was trying to influence my daughter, Sara, to give the granddaughter the Irish name Grainne (pronounced Grawn-yuh), but she went with a Welsh one instead--Guinevere. We call her Guinny so far. I feel for her when she has to learn to write her name!! It does fit tho' as at 2 years old she seems to think she's the queen of everything, lol.

I hate names that don't sound good together.

My dad calls me his sebbah (weird mixture of Sarah and Elizabeth - my name) and Mr. Rubyduby and I have thought of calling her Avabelle as a pet name.

But if it is a girl, they'll be so precious we won't be able to stand it. My mother is already buying baby clothes and called me the other day from the toy department of a store. Seriously - she's nuts.
