Santa Claus . . . Yes or No
Just a curious question I have to want to be parents and those that are parents. . .

Will you present or keep up the myth of Santa Claus to your children yes or no. . . and why or why not?

Since at this point in my life I'm not interested in having children (Nor am I actively dating anyway) I'm not sure exactly where I would stand on this question so I like to see where other stands.

1. Yes, and I have three kids.
Once knows the "truth", the second still believes, and the third is too young to "get" Santa yet.

Why? Because it's fun. No other reasons, really. It's a humorous tradition, I loved Santa as a kid, and I see no legitimate reason to deny that to my own children.

People who fret over "lying" to their children are being silly, IMO. Children are already fantasy prone, and that's a quality that should be encouraged in them when they're young. The Santa myth does that.

2. Sure, why not? It's fun for them.
I loved Santa. The illusion isn't a bad one. I don't see a problem with it.

4. I have three grown kids
They believed in Santa when they were little. I've never seen any harm in it. Hell, it's no more foolish than a lot of other things people believe in and I've never yet met anyone who was traumatized by finding out that Santa was make believe. Kids are all about make believe.

5. Me, no kids of my own, either
but I always indulged my nieces and nephews. I think it's okay to let them have Santa Claus. It's one of those fantastical things which instill a sense of wonder in children, and it's one of those wonderfully bittersweet memories we all have of growing up and learning that the real SC is mom and dad. What makes it even more fun for some families is how the older kids react--keeping it alive for their younger siblings, which is a wonderful gift to them, and a great secret for the older children with their parents.

Personally, I think it's one of the sweetest fantasies we have as a tradition.

6. No--because it's lying to her for a prolonged period and about something

dumb.

But honestly--I saw no point in it. There isn't a Santa Claus, why tell her there is?

I don't "believe in Santa Claus", but the whole thing is still fun...kind of....I think it's kind of creepy if I get too anal about it (not often).

She argues with me that there *is* a Santa Claus, LOL, because everyone else perpetuates it I think. We have agreed there there *is* a Santa Claus that you can go to the mall and see, or see on TV,which seems to satisfy us both.

And I'm aware that some may find it ironic that I do in fact tell her there is a God.
