I just got off the phone with a Dinesh from Juno. We got broadband, so I wanted to cancel the account. (Hey, $10/month for dialup isn't bad.) Simple enough, right? I get through the cancellation, copy down the confirmation #, and then he told me since I was a "platinum" member, I was entitled to a month free, and that will be good until Dec. 23.
I asked if my account would automatically cancel then, and get this -- he said NO. I'd have to call on or before the 23rd with the confirmation number and cancel again. In other words, I would have to remember to cancel, or else billing would start again. They were trying to screw a cancelling customer.
I told him to cancel immediately. He tried to talk me out of it. He didn't succeed.
And then, I asked where the call center was. (I always do this, so I can copy down the name and location of the person helping me.) He said, "Oh, don't worry, we're here in North America."
He then proceeded to tell me he was in Buffalo. I asked him what state. He didn't know.
Busted.
(He never did tell me where he was, but it sure wasn't North America.)
At least the cable company is an evil corporation, but at least its call center provides local jobs.
