Do you dread your work Christmas parties or enjoy them?
My husband's is tomorrow. It should be fun. It's a sit down dinner, live band, free drinks. It was fun last year.

4. Mandatory?
:wtf:

Ours is during the day too. But we leave and go to my boss's huge gargantuan lake house and have lunch catered to us. It's okay. Not mandatory though. Then we all get the rest of the day off!! :7

3. I like the departmental gathering
I really don't care much for the campus-wide celebration. It's too crowded.

6. It's a wash for me.
This is the third year in a row I'm going stag (2003 -- now-ex was sick; 2004 -- single; 2005 -- BF has his kid and it's not worth getting a baby sitter for).

This year's going to be "casino night." I can't stand casino games as it is (nothing against gambling, but the games themselves are annoying). I'll eat dinner, get my free drink, give my other drink ticket to someone else and call it a night.

9. Dread.
Truly dread. I have nothing in common with my coworkers. Not a problem at work, as I work alone, but I find it hard to socialize with them. They're a bit right wing for me. And since I'm driving, I can't drink my way through it.

11. Absolutely dread them
They are like wedding receptions, but less fun.
Free booze is always appreciated, but instead of being around relatives that can be fun, you're stuck with all the burnt assholes you hate spending 40+hours a week with.

12. Dread. Dread. Dread.
Act happy, smile a lot, watch the X-level make asses of themselves guffawing over their golf par while drunk. Watch their trophy wives smile through the botox paralysis.

Maybe Tavernertoddler can wreak some havoc this year

13. Our X-mas party is mandatory as well
for about one hour after work.

The only thing that bothers me is that I'm not Christian and I still have to attend. So, I just stand there for the obligatory amount of time and smile. It's only for an hour, once a year and they do give us a small present so I just grin and go along.

14. Yuck! You shouldn't have to go if you aren't Christian.
Surely they wouldn't make any Jewish people attend!

16. There are only about three of us out of about 130 who aren't Christian
and we've discussed this (they do give us a present which is thoughtful). It isn't all that bad except when they begin to hold hands and sing religious songs. That's when we just back away and watch.

I don't want to hold hands with my workers and sing. :puke:

22. I know what you mean about the singing and hand holding
It is kind of creepy.

The three of us do not feel ostracized any longer now that we have a new boss who is open minded and very tolerant of others.

27. Man! I never even thought of that!
We have Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish people working here, so all celebrations are just "holiday" stuff!

15. I'm skipping mine tonight.
Really - who thinks spending a Friday night with a room full of retired clergy (and a few active clergy, albeit most with kids in tow) as a good time?

Not me. I'll be here. ;)

20. Unfortunately, this year it's at a dog track, so DH & I are not going
What kind of dumbass thinks going to a place of cruelty and gambling and possibly mob connections is an appropriate place to celebrate ANY of the winter holidays?

Birth of Christ? Totally inappropriate
Jewish miracle of light? Totally inappropriate
The rebirth of the sun-god from the womb of the Goddess?
Wrong
The celebration of African culture and heritage? Really, really wrong.

WTF were they thinking?

21. Ours is tonight
The office is closing early but my wife can't leave her work. Hope they leave some food for us.
This is the first one we have had in several years. They stopped doing them since very few people show up. My congress critter was invited and I was hoping to corner him and ask a few pointed questions but he didn't RSVP.

24. I hate parties. I went for the first 15 or so years where I...
currently work. I haven't gone recently. One less thing to stress about during the holiday season.

Hope you have fun!

But then again, I was in a sorority, so I'm a sucker for a big formal party with free drinks.
