Poll question: what does "no profile" suggest to you?
i like to think of DU as a community, as such, getting to know others on this forum seems like a natural consequence of posting/reading here. having a profile (at least a nominal one) if you post here seems like good etiquette.

sometimes i see people with no profile enabled, this makes me wonder . . .

27. I have it too
However, I never knew it until I lived in Germany. I was totally unprepared for what happened as the sun began to set around 4pm and did not rise until 8:30-9:00am with a constant overcast (there was one eight week stretch when each day was heavily overcast). Gray, then night, gray, then night, (repeat).... I was so depressed.

Where I live it is usually sunny even when the sun sets early (5:15pm) and rises late (6:30am). Rarely do the clouds set in for more than a few days at most.

5. Other: only has meaning when combined with ugly posts.
In which case it becomes another bit of damning evidence. Otherwise, I'm not bothered by it.

6. For certain posters, it does make me wonder.
There are few that I am iffy about and when they have their profile disabled, it leads to more suspicion. But then again, some like to be anonymous. We have to option to enable or not, so

13. The second reason just doesn't hold true since...
you can put as much or as little info in there as you want. I've seen profiles that only state when they joined and how many posts they have. So, privacy is not the issue for those who disable their profiles.

Maybe a better question is to ask those who have disabled their profile "Why?" and say BS when they talk about privacy.

14. i wasn't trying to load the question
because there might be some people who are uber-paranoid or who might have valid reasons for not showing a profile.

i admit, there is relatively little that is damning, traceable, or otherwise revealing about the information you can list on a profile, so the fear of cyber-stalking defense doesn't hold much water for me.

as far as calling "BS" is concerned, i'd rather not do that to people. often it is far more effective (and fun) to give people enough rope to hang themselves with.

but i can understand your point.

19. Sorry,I wasn't implying that you loaded the question
That choice is very appropriate for this poll. But people should also realize they can choose what shows on their profile. For instance, I have the state I live in others will type in 'state of denial' or other such witticisms and others choose to not show that field at all. Same goes for the male/female field...you can choose for that not to show. But when someone turns it off and then spouts privacy issues, I still say that is BS.

I do like your way of handing them the rope

18. I had "no profile" for awhile as an option out of protest...
because the admins were annotating in your profile whether you were a "DU activist" or not and i felt that was a lame way of shaming people into becoming an "activist" so I blocked my profile.now it doesn't matter because, as far as i can tell, the DU activist thingy kind of fizzled shortly after its debut anyways. I find it amusing that people here get "suspicious" of disabled profiles and assume somebody might be a freeper.that makes NO FUCKING sense to me. all somebody has to do is LIE in their profile if they want to hide their freeperness.

Some people just choose to remain anonymous and keep their personal info private. What's wrong with that?

23. I didn't have my profile filled out for a while...
It's partly because I'm lazy and partly because I didn't want to fill it out at all.

But, I started noticing people making "knowing" posts like:

"Hmmm...no profile. Makes you wonder..."

So I filled it out lest I get falsely labeled as a bad kid.

Frickin' peer pressure man.

26. When you think about it a person can put false info
in the profile so then what?

Some people may fill it out but they
forget to turn the profile on. Either
way it is not a sign that someone is
a disruptor. There are many new members
who fill out the profile and then get
banned later after they have posted.
