Sid, my 6 year old cat peed in the house for the first time ever - HELP!
I love my cat, Sid, but I cannot and will not tolerate a cat that pisses all over my stuff. We've had a lovely relationship up to this point, and I'd hate to see it deteriorate.

He's healthy, he's very well fed, has a clean litterbox, and gets plenty of attention. Oh, and he's so well fed that we had to put him on special food for fat kitties many years ago.

So, what the hell gives? He pissed all over my jeans and the couch.

1. Well, it could be medical...
...some times cats get urinary tract infections or other problems.

I'd schedule him to see the vet to see what gives.

3. Seconded..
.. the most common cause of cats getting piss happy is urinary tract infections.

2. You don't know if he is healthy.
Even if you took him to a vet a week before. If you feel sick, break a leg, get a UTI, whatever-you don't say to yourself-I have been to a Dr. a month before, I know I am fine. You go to a Dr. and describe new symptoms. The same should go for a cat. He should go to a vet and you should describe his symptoms. He most likely has some sort of urinary problem.

5. Yeah, I've got an appointment already...
I just recoil in horror at the thought of a cat that sprays all over the house.

I have friends who recently had to get rid of a cat because she was destroying their house. The vet couldn't find a single thing wrong with her.

6. My cat had the same problem. I switched his food to
Waltham's SO. It's prescription for cats with urinary problems, and it really helped him. In male cats, especially, urinary problems are dangerous because they can get blocked, so, you definitely should take him to a vet, because if cat gets blocked, he can easily die.

7. Yeah, had that happen to another cat once...
I went away for a week, and somehow didn't leave enough food. My friend bought some really crappy food - Purina or something - a crystal formed in my cat's eurethra and he couldn't pee. The broke it up with a laser or something and he was fine, but it could have been very bad. Yikes!

8. Well, spraying and peeing are two different things.
The former is less malodorous and not a permanent stink (at least to our noses).

9. White vinegar works for cleaning kitty piss up.
Good luck! I'm glad you're taking him to the vet to check out for a urinary tract infection.
