Gad, they just botched a chip shot FG that would have provided a 9 point margin. Then Stanford connects with a bomb down to the 4 yard line. Less than 2 minutes left and the Irish leading 30-24.
Right down the field for Brady Quinn. The little Stanford CBs have spent more time complaining than covering.
Anyone watching can see how much this game means to Notre Dame. It's a cold night in Palo Alto but visible sweat on Charlie Weis' upper lip during that drive.
Still 55 seconds left for Stanford but after the 2-point conversion they'll need a TD for OT. 38-31 Irish.
A couple of TDs early then a big play on the last Notre Dame drive, putting the Irish past midfield.
Game over! Irish head to the BCS.
One of the dumbest plays you'll ever see by the Stanford QB. He spiked the ball on 3rd and 19 with 15 seconds left from his own territory. Game ended with a sack on the following play.
11. Probably the Stanford band and student section

By far the most creative nutcases in the country. They make the Duke basketball crowd look like businessmen on a commuter plane.
It'll get even more loud and loony in the future. Stanford is tearing down the stadium pronto in favor of a smaller version but with fans much closer to the field.
I didn't hear the sound and was just guessing. Since it was Stanford Stadium I defaulted to their band and student section because I've been there so many times and seen/heard the wild stunts. It's gotten them in trouble a few times, including the band barred from halftime performances at games, both football and basketball
