Just built a bed for my 3 year old grandson.
It's collapsible, pretty cool.
Thunk it up out of my own head.

Don't know a better way to explain it, but I built tabs on the head and foot that fit into slots on the plywood platform. Made the head and foot from 1" X 12" pine shelving. Has hinged side boards from the head to about halfway down the length of the platform to keep him from rolling out. They fold flat onto the platform for storage. The 3 pieces will go in the back of a closet.

It's sized to hold a 51" X 27" baby bed mattress. Top of the mattress is only about a foot off of the floor. Plenty big enough for Jack and low enough for him to get in and out. He's coming for a visit next week.

Jack is still over-the-moon about Buzz Lightyear, so the bed will have big Buzz decals on the head and foot.
Miz t. found a really neat Buzz Lightyear costume on sale after Halloween. We'll have it lying on the bed when he gets here.

I hope he's wearing a diaper when he see's it, because he will absolutely wet his pants.
;-)

3. Once it's painted and finished, I'll try.
I am pretty chuffed with the final product.
I had tried another way to attach the head and foot that wasn't sturdy enough.
Back to the drawing board (in my head) and now it's much sturdier and actually simpler construction.

2. Maybe you should draw out the schematics...
and send it to a woodworking magazine.

It sounds like a great bed.

My dad built the change table, cradle and toddler bed (among other furniture for my house) for my girls and I treasure them all.

Jack is lucky to have you for a grandpa.

4. You have a great dad.
I like a guy who makes family heirlooms.

5. My dad built my kitchen table...
It's a round pedestal table, perfect for a family of four, going to be awkward when we become a family of 5 next year.

They wanted to buy me a new kitchen set for Christmas. I told them NO WAY! I am not giving up something my father built! We'll figure out how to get two adults and three kids around it.

Sounds like fun.

It's so great to make little kids happy. What a good grandpa.
