Poll question: Do you eschew Christmas? Why? Or why not?
Do you plan to celebrate Christmas in the traditional sense with all the Hallmark / Currier & Ives ambiance or do you just want to get it over with?

1. Other: I enjoy spending time with more than immediate family and
buying gifts for them.

I think it's a fun time of year...

3. None of the fixed answers work for me.
I do Xmas because it is the traditional annual potlatch. But I don't do all of those Xmassy things, such as carols.

5. I wish fewer nuts were involved. You got >
yer mixed nuts, cheese logs rolled in nuts, Chex Mix with nut, Nutcrackers, pecan pie, etc.

7. Guess I'm gettin' old..........
I'm just tired of the whole thing. Besides, it is in the Winter, and there's nothing to celebrate about Winter. Ugh!

8. Eschew.
I consider Xmas to be a pagan holiday, to be avoided. I resented being forced to take the day off, and then having my pay docked when I took off the days I wanted to take off. And it's never a pretty picture when I forget what time of year it is and go shopping: I did that once a day or two before Xmas, and decided I really did have to start taking notice of it. And oil spills.

Now I'm dragged into the entire mess by my atheist wife, who's a "cultural Xian" and really into the whole Hallmark thing.

10. I love Christmas
Lights, decorations, music, food, friends, family, what's not to love. I don't get people who are so cynical that they can't enjoy festivity.

11. What's traditional?
I love the cold, the warmth of the woodstove, the comfort, the music. I like to welcome the sun back to my part of the world. I give gifts to family and a very few close friends. Sometimes I send cards, when I remember to. Usually with some sort of peace message. I have gathered on street corners to carol. I don't go shopping; I avoid malls like the plague and any gifts I purchase I do online. I do as little as possible in the way of decorating, mainly because I don't need the extra work involved. I'm a pretty busy person already.

When my kids were kids, I usually spent the 24th doing crafts and baking with them, and reading stories. We hadhave our own traditions that included a tree, music, gifts, and other things. We aren't christians, and it has nothing to do with the birth of christ or the season of forced gift-giving and debt-ridden spending.

12. I'm a Festivus kinda guy.
The airing of grievances and the feats of strength always make my holidays complete.

15. I don't celebrate Christmas
I don't have any religious beliefs concerning it.

I have many bad associations in relation to it.

And I find the excess and greed surrounding it very much of a turnoff.

I also reject the idea that "it's the one time of the year when everyone thinks of others and blah, blah, blah."

People should be concerned about others year round. And if I see something that I think one of my loved ones would enjoy, I'll buy it for them and present it, no matter what time of year.

Besides, the great majority of people I see every year are totally stressed out, grumpy and miserable around Christmas.
