Hi all... Need some law advise please
Hey tony and dietrich here.
I have a situation I would appreciate some advise about.
I lived in my previous apartment for 6 years with my guide dog.
Management didn't want to fix anything, and when they did it was usually slipshod.
Anyway it seems like my building got infested with rats.
they tried to blame me for not keeping it "clean enough"

so they put a 7 day move notice on my door. That was after they put a move notice on my door for being 2 days late with my rent,

So I moved out, today I get a call at work (illegal) telling me they want 3400 for the repairs, they basically didn't do for 6 years.

I told him they told me to move out and I did, he said he didn't like my attitude, so I said you'll like this attitude and hung up.
Can they do this when their the ones that wanted me to leave?
take care
tony and dietrich

1. Without knowing more....
...the landlord's remedy is usually limited to kicking someone out.

2. Your question is impossible to answer.
Only a lawyer, well versed in your state's Landlord-Tenant law, and having read your written lease, can answer this question.

3. You need to talk to somebody who knows your state's laws
because you can be held responsible for repairs beyond your security deposit after you move out. I hope you have records, photos, etc showing the condition at time of move-out and documenting the minimal maintainance performed during your tenancy, that should make this go easier for you.

4. Even if you don't pay he will still make money off of it.

He will claim it on his taxes as a "bad debt". He just had to try you first so that he could then turn it over to his tax preparer. And no, he shouldn't expect you to pay for the routine maintenance that was neglected for six years.
