1. Congrats!
I've never cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for anyone. My mom or my sister always did the job... and it WAS a job.

44. Of COURSEI Cooked!
The traditional with my ex-husband (who is homeless) and all the kids were there with their friends and partners. Lots of people not feasting this year around us, it seems. Had around 12 people. someone brought a boneless a ham and I fixed a 15 lb turkey with still lots of leftovers to munch on today and tomorrow too! :o)

Pumpkin and cherry pies, turkey, mashed potatoes (real potatoes), stuffing, gravy (real gravy made from the turkey juices), corn, and the daughter and daughter-in-law brought the salads.

I went to my Mom's but she'd sooner die than veganize the side dishes, so I had to make a completely separate dinner for myself and LeftyKid.

20. I cooked the turkey and dressing
my sister made the vegetables, my mom made the potatoes which I mashed, and then my Mom, my 86 year old Dad, and a few others sat around and watched the tape of the Michael Moore speech which my sister had made. We then applauded the TV, something I don't think my family has ever done.

Soup, lasagna, turkey, potatoes, turnips, green bean cassarole, leeks au gratin, corn, stuffing, cheesecake and 2 pies. It is sinful. That Italian gene can't be controlled. I'm not cooking again until at least some of this is gone!

But it sure was yummy.

12. I cooked a turkey breast and gravy for a friend and myself.
(Free range turkey, and gravy from drippings and homemade frozen turkey stock) She brought sweet potatoes and flowers and I bought a cranberry and orange relish. I was a lot more tired from cleaning than from cooking. The turkey came out particularly well.

18. Welcome to DU! This was my 17th straight year of cooking/having
Thanksgiving

That first year I had been married since Feb. and my brother was getting married the Saturday following Thanksgiving; I knew my mother was consumed with the upcoming wedding but still wanted all of us together before the "baby"got married so I offered

After that meal was over my mother said to me "You own this holiday now"

Thanks Mom

I'm exhausted

21. split the chores for a ten person dinner... then had a second dinner
brother did the turkey, cranberry sauce and creamed spinach; sister did the stuffing and gravy; husband did the sweet and mashed potatoes and I did the green bean casserole, corn bread, pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate pecan pie, berry cobbler and chocolate chip bundt cake (I got a kitchenaide stand mixer as a wedding present and demanded to do the desserts so I could use it!).

My father and my husbands father got to sit out on the cooking as did my husband's brother and his girlfriend.

Then we had a second Thanksgiving with my husband's mother and her family (but I didn't need to cook).

Splitting holidays with two sets of divorced parents is high in calories (I will have to run for 5 miles a day this week)

36. Used to do that, too,
Had Thanksgiving "lunch" with my family and then did the whole thing over again with hubby's family at about 8pm -- man was that hard on the waistline! And, we'd have to figure out a meal with my father, too!

After hubby's grandmother passed away, his mother always goes to his sister's house in CO, so we do it at my family's now. And, my dad comes to my mom's house (which is too cool for words)!

Really works out nice now.

I got up at 4am to start cooking and I finally crashed REAL hard at about 5pm, woke up around 930pm or so just in time to ask how everything was:-). I haven't been that tired in a long time. I made everything from scratch right down to the cocktail sauce for the shrimp.

My husband too did all the cooking too.....
had a 6 lb capon, dressing, green bean dish, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin or banana cream pie. He told me he's not doing it next year. He's done our thanksgiving dinner for more then 25 years, and he says that he doesn't enjoy making it as much as he used to. He just gets tired......I said great, we'll go out next year. He's the best.

38. My hubby has always done all the holiday cooking, and I
did all the daily cooking for the first 20 years of our marriage. Five years ago, I told him it was his turn to figure out the daily cooking deal. He's a much better cook and much more creative than I am.

This year's holiday dinner?

Turkey, sage sausage dressing, cranberry salad, green beans, broccolli casserole, potato casserole, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, homemade buttermilk biscuits, gravy, and pecan and pumpkin pie.

Totally traditional. And sooo amazing!

29. Yep.
A little bit of this a little bit of that and a grand 20# turkey.

turkey with stuffing gravy potatoes baked sweet potatoes candied yams cranberry relish cole slaw green bean casserole dinner rolls pumpkin bread devilled eggs olives pickles banana cream pie pumpkin pie

one daughter-in-law brought over a sweet potato souffle and another brought a cherry jello dessert

this preceded by a veggie and dip tray

and followed by a very sick husband :( Poor man, thought he'd eaten too much, but round about midnight realized it was more than that - he's still down for the count today. Either the flu or a very clever ploy for getting out of cleaning up afterwards.

The best parts of the day, though, was watching one granddaughter proudly share her round-off cartwheels she's worked so hard at - and rocking the newest grandbaby to sleep last night.

31. I didn't this year....
My mother and grandmother (who's 90) and my aunt did all the cooking at my mom's house (for 17). I usually do the cooking, but the 60-hour work weeks have gotten to me!

It was wonderful, even if we skipped the turkey this year (did ham and smoked ribs, instead) as well as all of our family standards (sweet potatoes, green beans, mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, etc.) and lots and lots of pies.

I'll be doing Christmas, though!

And I do mean WE. It was all hands on deck with each person handed a recipe. We made pumpkin pie, apple spice cake, turkey breast, green beans, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad with apples/blue cheese/candied walnuts, stuffed mushrooms, cranberry sauce, and brie with some of the cranberry sauce baked into it. Yum!

Yesterday, I was thankful for:
- My cooperative and helpful family. Thanks especially to my mother-in-law for getting my teenaged daughters to help out and for giving them a cooking lesson.
- My Showtime rotisserie. This is THE way to cook poulty IMHO.
- Allrecipes.com for all my free and super easy recipes.
- Stovetop stuffing. The inventor of this product just passed away, may she RIP.
- My dishwasher. My washing machine. All the clean water that they used throughout the day.
- Stackable Ziploc storage containers. Press and seal plastic wrap. Nonstick aluminum foil.
- A fridge to hold our abundant supply of food that I try very hard not to take for granted.
- Malarky. The game that had everyone awake and laughing hysterically after our large and usually sleep-inducing meal.
