1. USB is transparent, but other camera software should be for MAC
I know HP cameras and printers now include Mac disc's with them, set one up this week (threw the MAC disc away:shrug:).

4. Your Mac is probably smart enough not to need...
...the proprietary software that comes with cameras, and unless it's seven years old or more, is perfectly capable of reading the camera memory as just another disk drive. If the computer has a USB plug, I don't think you'll have any worries, unless you need a specific app that is Windows-only.

5. Probably, but
You will need some Mac specific download (upload? I can never remember) software. You can still get the photos on the Mac without it, but it's much easier with it.

USB works with Mac or PC. JPEGS work with Mac or PC.

6. Just buy a USB card reader.
That way, you don't have to use camera-battery energy while you're transferring pictures.

7. Will a standard USB flash memory module wortk in a Mac?
Plug it in, the camera should be read like a USB RAM device. It's easy enough for PCs...

Of course, they also make cameras so you can stick in and plop out those memory modules - surely they sell multi-format readers for the Macs?

9. Better than with Windows, if using iPhoto works for you
iPhoto will recognize your camera when you plug it in and automatically start iPhoto. Then you can choose to import your pictures from your camera and leave the pictures on the camera as well, or delete them from the camera once they are imported into iPhoto.

The only time you need other software is if you'd like to "stitch" pictures together to do a panarama or something else that's not offered in iPhoto.

All of these will work out of the box without installing any software.

11. iPhoto can read virtually any camera.
Just hook it in, and iPhoto takes over.

15. Most ought to
Mac also recognizes some cameras as another drive, as with my Panasonic FZ5. So if you want to skip iPhoto, it's easy. As I'm teaching myself photography, I do that to weed out all the shite shots.
