Venting - abscessed tooth + vicodin

I had an abscessed tooth opened up yesterday, and thought that the combination of the procedure, antibiotics, and vicodin would help.... That was a triumph of hope over experience. It hurts worse than it did before I went to the dentist. Thanksgiving, needless to say, sucked. My wife finally got tired of hearing me whine and went to bed. I have a little vegetative material that I'm gonna light up to see if that will help. This sucks with enthusiasm.....

1. Ouch.. I know from experience how bad it can be.

I had one that I needed an emergency root canal done. My left side of my face was swollen, could barely see my tooth, and it hurt like hell to even open my mouth.

My regular dentist told me he couldnt do anything for 2 weeks. I went to another dentist and he did it right then and there. The pain went away almost immediately for me at least.

Did you put ice on the area? That helps too. I've also heard cloves working but I never ventured to try that.

2. Don't smoke!!! IMPORTANT!!

The action of drawing on a smoke or sucking on a straw will loosen the clotted blood and you will start bleeding again! I've been there, done that! It ain't pretty or fun! I did that after I had wisdom teeth pulled and bled all night long!

This is the third time I've posted this for someone with tooth problems post dentist. It must be my DU public service announcement. LOL

that is wretched. you have my sympathy, had the same thing summer before last, no fun at all. At least you got vicodin or it might be worse.

4. I am in the same boat, only about 5 days further along than you.

Give it a few more days. The Anti's will start kicking in and everything will feel better. Smoke one for me.
