This is Wednesday night. Not Saturday night. Keep repeating....
and maybe it will sink in.

It's been a pretty eventful Wednesday, at that.

First, the manhunt continues for three escaped convicts in our county. One guy was convicted on capital murder, another on arson, and another on selling drugs. The Mississippi DEA is now searching the area for these guys, because they broke into a camper at a campground and stole camo and four rifles. Helicopters and dogs are being used in the search, so every few minutes you hear the chopper above and see the glow of the search lights. I haven't heard the dogs yet, though. Just awhile ago, one of these guys carjacked a car at the rest area on the interstate. Maybe he made it to Louisiana, where his family lives. Of course, we've been told that these guys are considered "armed and dangerous." Law enforcement is so jazzed to catch them that I'm worried that some innocent person will be hurt.

Then, someone reported a 4-car pile up on the interstate. The rescue vehicle and our fire department was called out. When we got there, nothing. I guess someone thought it would be funny to report and accident and then watch all of the purty lights race by.

Now I'm getting ready to brine my turkey and prepare the dressing. I have to keep reminding myself that this is Wednesday...It's been Saturday all day.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I'm going to be away for the rest of the weekend--I hope all of you have a good holiday.

11. LOL. So do I.
I can remember being a kid, and when someone escaped from the city jail, my dad going outside on the porch and standing sentinel with his shotgun.

I'm not worried about it...I'm more perturbed with the helicopters than the convicts.

16. Guess we will see more of you in January
;-)

Glad to hear you are back at it... all you have to do now - is get through it - get into that intense zone, live it, eat it, breath it, sleep it, and somehow be able to distinguish your son from a chapter that needs a little more editing ;-) And before you know it - you will be ready to defend, publish, and have this whole academic hazing/drama/training become a distant memory.

Have a wonderful holiday! :loveya:

17. January is going to really busy here.
I'll be working on the diss., and I am taking a first responder course, so that I can be on the first response team with our fire department...I'll be the guinea pig...the first first responder in our department.

I am looking forward to it, though, because it will give me much needed breaks from history. :D

18. Who knows - if you "hit the zone"
(the dissertation writing zone) - you might be "finishing your diss" in jan rather than merely working on it. Maybe not - but when you hit the zone... you will know it (as you won't notice much else) and the end is close when you hit the zone (or so I have witnessed folks who had lingered - than suddenly ... go from two chapters written - to "waiting for feedback from my advisor and another reader before I do the 'final' revisions."

Going to guess it would be hard, however, to do the responders course AND be in the diss zone at the same time. Perhaps the Jan diss work will be the final warm-up (endurance wise) for the diss writing/zone marathon! However the pacing works - Know that I am behind you, cheering you on!

19. I still have numerous archival collections to visit.
Then I'll start writing.

Knowing that you are pulling for me makes it all the easier, though. You gave me excellent advice on my comps, and then you told me that it's normal to go through the period of inactivity before really becoming involved in the diss research/writing.

Your advice has been the best. :loveya:

35. I had a bit of an accident, strained back and concussion
Had an accident at work doing massage. I basically flung myself backwards onto a low windowsill with the back of my head (a thing I was pulling on broke) (sheet that is, not part of the person). It was not very fun and I still am not quite right, have holes in my thoughts and must concentrate to concentrate. I couldn't think of who the president was between the bushes today. I thought there was one since I could picture a big gap, but had no idea who or anything about him until the person I was talking with said "Clinton". Then it all came back to me. Rather odd, sort of like taking drugs without the drugs. I am not driving for a bit since I sort of forgot I was driving today while I was driving, didn't hit anything but it took a couple seconds to figure out that I should be paying attention. I haven't been DUing much the last wk because it is harm to keep on track (yes, I've been checked out, am ok, just taking a bit of time).

Anyway, I'm glad for a few days off.

39. Lordy. That sounds terrible.
The mental fog would be the worst. I had a go-cart wreck in 2002, and I still don't feel mentally like myself. I was put under for the surgery, and I haven't felt clear-headed since.

You will be in my thoughts--for a quick recovery of your usually very sharp mind.

Hope they catch those convicts too. When I saw the word manhunt I at first had a totally different idea of what you were talking about. But then you know me and the gutter. :eyes: You'll have to tell us about this brining the turkey. Never heard that term except around here several times.

41. Hahaha! No, *I'm* not on a manhunt. :-)
And the brining is easy to do. All you do is get the biggest pot you have, boil about 3 gallons of water to which you add a cup or so of salt, a cup of brown sugar, some black and cayenne pepper, allspice, cloves. Dump it in a small ice chest and dilute it with another gallon or so of water and enough ice cubes to bring it down to room temp. Take the giblets/neck out of the turkey, and put it in the brine solution for about 10 hours.

The turkey soaks up the flavors...if you want, you can still inject it, and then you deep fry it, and voila! It's ready. :D

That brining does sound good the way you explain it. I thought there would be soaking the bird in some kind of pickling solution. I'll have to try it.

I hope George Carlin's advice on escaped convicts pans out for you: (paraphrased) "Don't worry about being near a prison when convicts escape, they won't be hanging around in the area--their biggest worry is going to be getting as far away from there as possible!".

May you have a peaceful, enjoyable and uneventful Thanksgiving.
