What's with white meat?
Seriously, what's the allure? Everyone I know seems to love white meat poultry, and all sorts of restaurants and TV dinners advertise white meat, like that's a selling point. My question is why though? Most people can't cook to save their lives, so white meat tends to end up like sawdust in a desert. I can't imagine it's the health effects, as I suppose it's slightly less fatty than dark meat, but when the end product is deep fried (like all white meat mcnuggets or something), it sort of negates the whole difference in fat.

So what's the deal? Why don't people like dark meat? What's wrong with succulant food?

Of course, that doesn't explain why red meats are popular...

2. I'm with you DinoBoy...
People tend to make "chicken jerky" out of the white meat. I am partial to the dark meat myself, except, that my hubby has to remove the bones because I have a bizarre aversion to gnawing on poultry bones.

white meat has been defined as "lean" (it is leaner than dark)

I actually prefer dark meat turkey. :9

Myself, I'd prefer a couple of tasty drumsticks.

Actually, cooked separately & very gently, "white meat" can be fine. But--attached to a roast bird--it's too dry. Take it off the bone, cut into smallish pieces & feed to the cats. (Or dogs.)

5. I roast mine breast side down,
may not look pretty but I carve before dinner so it's not important. At least it's not dry cooked that way.

Anything to get the white meat as moist as possible. It's so hard to cook poultry breasts and make them succulent.
