What should I make for dinner?
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 04:55 PM by Scout1071
I'm headed out to the grocery store in just a few minutes, but unable to make a decision on what sounds good for dinner.

Kind of thinking spaghetti, but doesn't make for the greatest leftovers.

Any ideas from the DU cooks out there?

2. Sunday night dinner.
Make a nice pot roast with potatoes, carrots and a salad.

3. Little late for that today. A roast needs most of the day.
It's because I stayed up too late last night and spent the better part of the day at the new Potter movie (recommended).

PS - I'm in KC too.

4. There's a quick recipe you can use.
Get a box of onion soup mix. Brown the roast in a dutch oven, cover in water, add spuds and carrots (I use baby carrots) and soup mix. Simmer for a couple of hours, or as long as you can hold out.

You should come to our meetups at the Flea Market. Watch the Kansas and Missouri forums for announcements.

5. Thanks.
And I'd like to check out a meet-up, but the timing has been difficult for me. I have some crazy work hours right now.

Thanks for the roast tip. I'm off to wonder the grocery store on this dreary day.

8. Hope you enjoy the dinner.
Oh, and rub the roast with seasoned flour before you brown it in oil. That'll help make the liquid into a gravy.

There are plenty of people who can't make the meet-ups. We're trying to find a better time to hold them in the future.

9. I'm making something new
Mushrooms in the stray and hay. You sautee 6 crushed cloves of garlic in 2 tablespoons of butter. At the same time you cook ( in two different pots) 8 ounces each thin egg noodles and thin spinach noodles. When the pasta's done you place it in a big bowl then add 1 cup evaporated milk and 1/4 veg or chicken broth to the mushrooms. Bring that to a boil then add 1/2 Parmesan cheese.

Finally you mix your mushroom sauce and pasta together and serve with more cheese. I'm making that and fresh broccoli and that's it.

13. You're welcome but. . .
Don't try that at home! I messed up and forgot to write that you have to sautee the mushrooms with the garlic.

14. I was wondering about that step!
Sounds yummy now that the mushrooms are cooked with the garlic.

I had a portebella & garlic bisque last week that was AWESOME>

6. You're in the mood for pasta, but want leftovers?
Why not throw together a lasagna? Maybe some manicotti with spinach? Most baked pasta dishes reheat well.

11. Low blow warrior1. I have a very hard time saying no to Mexican.
You may have just swayed the decision with a picture.

Damn I'm easy when it comes to Mexican food.

16. In a pinch, Hormel has prepared Pot Roast....
Meat Loaf....

You can get Bob Evans Garlic Mashed Potatos or just regular old mashers....

Also, an easy meal is Pierogies, cabbage and Kielbasa...

Or you can get some thin strip steaks and quick fry them in Olive Oil, Garlic and Onions... A few Microwave Bakers and a salad...

The strips take about ten minutes tops to cook on the stove top....

Pan Seared is great stuff.....
