1. AVOID the Bratz!
I would get her... maybe a cute diary set. I always loved those when I was little.

Or maybe, you could ask your stepsons girlfriend if she likes to read. If she does, get her a book like Junie B. Jones. Those are cute, done in the tradition of Ramona books.

Just me.

4. I used to love those little diaries.
She'll love it, if she's anything like the nine-year-olds I know.

7. Ask you stepson's girlfriend on what the child likes.
And buy accordingly.

8. What do you get a 7 year old boy?
For girls I'd say diary...maybe also beading stuff to make your own bracelets/stuff... it's a good idea to find out what kind of stuff the girl is into. If she's a "tomboy", she may not like beading stuff...but she might like a video game or something.

Girls are so easy, sigh.

Got a birthday party next week for a boy, NO CLUE. I'm thinking something Spider/Bat/Superman....but....I too want under $30 and whatever I get, I don't know if it'll be cool enough.

Best gift for little boys, imho. You can usually get a whole tub of them for under $30, especially if you find them on sale.

11. Last year, we got my niece this:

She seemed to like it. Stereotypical -- a cookbook for a girl. But, it's REVOLTING food, remember, too. :)

13. Super Nintendo...
you can get a used SNES and some good games pretty cheap. Maybe $15 for the system plus $5 for a game. I'd recommend "Secret of Mana" or "Chronotriger."

(Yeah, I know a LOT of female gamers...)
