Pictures Of Our Beloved Siblings
It's holiday time. My brother, whom I love dearly, lives across the continent from me. But we're so, so close. I wish I could see him more often. We had a little spat a week ago over the phone; just a little one, but neither could live with the bad feelings for a week. He called me and we made up.

I'm posting a picture of my beloved brother. This was taken in Paris by Dad of the two of us. I get to see both Dad and Eric at Xmas.

Please post a picture of yourself with your brother and/or sister. I'm dedicating this thread to you, Shell Beau.

I am so sorry. I wanted to dedicate this thread to young Shell Beau, who lost her brother too. It's really hard when you spent your childhood with someone who disappeared.

69. Thanks, Sugar Smack.
We were very close in age ("Irish twins") and did a lot together and with our other 3 siblings. You never get used to their absence. Your post reminded me of that special something between sibs that can't be wrecked by a spat. You and your brother look great together, and I'm happy for you.

11. What a lovely picture. You might find this amusing...
He resembles my brother-in-law, who also happens to be named Eric. My son looked at the picture and said, "That's Uncle Eric!"

I'm also very close to my little brother, and I can't stand being so far away from him. We call each other frequently.

I miss the days when we lived nearby. He had a job that took him all over the Twin Cities, and if he was in my neighborhood, he'd stop by to see if I was baking bread or cookies. Or he'd drop in for lunch and I'd make his favorite macaroni and cheese. I can't tell you how much I miss that.

I thought I had a scanned picture of the five of us siblings on Christmas Eve 1985, but I can't find it.

I did find this one. I'm not in it, though. From left to right, my little brother, my little sister, my grampa, and one of my older sisters. My brother looks about 5, so I'm guessing this was taken in about 1976.

Your older sister with the glasses bent over writing looks exactly like me about 1976!!! I'm not kidding, I thought it was me for a minute. Same hair, glasses, nose, gangly frame, everything. If I knew how to post pics here, I'd prove it. BTW your little brother and sister are precious and Grandpa either made them laugh or they made him laugh!

81. Go to Photobucket!
Register there, give a username and give them any password. Put a picture on your desktop, a small, 72 dpi JPEG. In order to have a picture show up here, you have to click the word "browse" in the program. It will pick up the name of your picture when you submit it. Then hit the button that says "submit".

When you've done that, you'll see your picture turn up on the website. Double-click on that. If it's huge, it'll show up huge when you click on it. You have the option of editing that.

Finally, right-click on the picture itself. At the bottom of the menu, you'll see "properties". Highlight that info, copy it, and then when you're writing your message to DU, just paste it in the body of the message.

I hope this helped!! I would love to see your picture! :hi:

The nostalgia chokes me up a little this time of the year, because we're all SUPPOSED to be together (in my idealistic vision).

"I'm also very close to my little brother, and I can't stand being so far away from him. We call each other frequently."

That's us too, LIW.

73. In all honesty...
My little brother looks exactly the same, my sister is still precious but with a few pounds added, and I somehow look much better than I did there (sorry, I'm honest but not at all modest). My parents are good looking so I guess we had no choice. Anyway there are pics where we all look better but none that I like so much. This one always hits my heart because they surprised me with a visit when I really needed some cheering up and managed to bring a smile to my face for the first time in weeks. Every time I see this pic, I have to call them both.

hard as that standard is to attain.

Here's an already posted digital pic of an oil painting I did for my parents of my brother and me in the Black Hawk Park neighborhood of Madison, WI in 1965. Mom sewed the jackets and took the snapshot on which this painting is based. And Dad once tied an empty pepper can to my trike and told me it was the carburetor. I was so proud of that carburetor on my trike.

I hope there are enough levels of abstraction here to please everyone. Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

They both live in California, and I miss them so. The darker haired one is the daddy to a brand new baby boy! The lighter haired one is the happy daddy of two little girls. I call them Rose Red and Snow White, because one is as dark complected as the other is fair. Gosh, I hate this time of year for missing people.

44. LaraMNSis!
I'm not in the picture-- it's the only one I have of her on my computer. It's (obviously) from a Kerry rally, so it's a little old. She's in her second year of college, now. We have a bit of an age gap.

60. You know, I see the resemblance in your eyes
and in your cheekbones. She's lovely. LOVE that rally going on behind her!

48. My brother and I in 1990...I was fourteen, he sixteen.
I'm the one on the bottom with the "Alternative Tentacles" t-shirt, he's in the suit. This pretty much sums up our relationship...he's a computer programmer on Wall Street making 80 thou a year (and he voted for Bush, according to my mother), I'm a musician in Chicago who makes a living as a line cook.

Needless to say, we don't get along well anymore. In fact, I can't remember the last time we spoke, and it doesn't exactly break my heart.

61. Well it's a good picture of YOU, dearest RKZ.
Hey listen, does your Mom live in Chicago around you, too? I would understand a little of the chilliness you have toward him (the blatant and unforgivable Bush-voting notwithstanding); when a guy chases his ambitions in a soul-dead environment and doesn't look back, it's disheartening to say the least.

My bro up and went to Cali about 12 years ago to do animation. So much time lost, and that was part of our spat over the phone. I'm so glad for your contribution to this thread. I'm kind of loaded with questions which you don't have to answer, but I have to ask- what are your conversations like when you talk to him?

75. I don't talk to him.
The last convo we had was two summers ago. Stilted, to say the least. He talked about his kid and his job, I listened, I talked about my jobs, and there was silence, then nothing since.

My mother lives in Florida, my brother in Connecticut.

The really weird part is that this small unit is all that's left of my family. My father's side of the family is all dead, completely died out. My mother's side of the family is all failed geniuses and religious fanatics; I've never been close to any of them. My mom lives in a crappy little apartment in some shitty slice of Florida, and she's the only member of my family I have left. I try not to think about it too much.

Anyhow, it's not as depressing as it sounds; I'm in a great marriage, I love my wife, and I have a wonderful network of supportive friends, and honestly I'm kind of a misanthrope anyways...large family gatherings always made me withdraw as a child. I tend to concentrate on my music, my job, and my marriage, politics, and the future.

Thanks for asking....take care.

You both look way too young to have a daughter.

I HOPE so! You cracked me up in DC, "Oh, everyone here's so young!" And you're this petite beauty with a great smile.

83. YES. I was fortunate enough to meet her in DC.
She was so great. We were at the rally before going on the march. We were positively giddy! I saw sparkles in her eyes, and we had the best time being "newbies" to the protest scene. We were changed, fundamentally, forever by that weekend.

:hi: Will I ever get to meet you? I really hope I do.
