What's the most exotic animal you've eaten?
Me first: the Brazilian Agouti (very very good) at a restaurant in downtown Rio: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Agouti_paca.html

4. Damn, that's one big rat you're eating there
Can't say I've eaten a paca, but I have eaten fried grasshoppers, chocolate covered ants, rattlesnake(yes, it does bear a resemblance to chicken) and dried octopus, which was suprisingly sweet.

I eat cow, pig, and chicken. Oh, and shellfish. I have tasted deer (my dad hunts for meat) but I vowed to never eat it again.

OK, not really...I guess the most exotic would be deer. That's not very exotic, is it? I gave up eating meat a long time ago, though.

I like to make "mock-meat" dishes nowadays, and tell people it's something like "vegetarian giraffe" or what-have-you. Hey, it's all just freakin' soy protein or wheat meat, so why should it be "vegetarian chicken" rather than, I dunno, "vegetarian horse"?

16. Hmm...
Deer, elk, ostrich, gator.

Squid, octopus, sea urchin.

Tripe, which I know comes from a mundane animal but still. Not doing that one again.

Probably more I'm forgetting.

41. Kangaroo and Alligator
Went to a restaurant in Australia that had them on the menu. So I got the cubed Alligator in cream sauce for an appetizer, followed by a Kangaroo steak.

I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce on the alligator, but the kangaroo steak was amazing.

48. endangered Hawaiian Nene goose (egg only!)
I was farm-sitting for a friend, who breeds rare waterfowl for zoos. They have a small flock of Nene (one of my favorite birds). I came out one winter morning to discover that one of the females had laid an egg the night before. It had frozen solid (and anyway, the shell was cracked) -- even if the egg were fertile, I estimated that there was virtually no chance of a successful hatch.

So I took it back to the house and cracked it into a pan. Beautiful orange yolk, and absolutely delicious. (We spoil the birds rotten with organic food and lots of healthy treats, so they have nicer diets than I do!)
